Just wandering what everyone else thought I had the meriva coil fitted for a year I stupidly had unprotected sex on the 8th September and the coil removed on the 9th. I bleed heavy for 4 days do I count that as my period ??? I don't have a regular cycle and have been coming on about the 17th and didn't bleed again for September, I still have not bleed not sure what date to go by the 10th or 17th and is there a chance I could of fallen pregnant when coil was removed getting anxious about this and no-one I know has a clue !!! ??? Hi Dawn,

I had a mirena Coil which was removed in May and the day afterwards I started bleeding, it was only light but lasted about 3 days. The doctor who had removed my coil had told me to expect this to happen. I didn't class it as a period, just a natural reaction to the device and hormone being arrived. I classed my first period as when I started bleeding 30 days later as was my normal cycle length.

If you did not have regular period when you had your coil in place it may be that you weren't even ovulating. The Coil isn't 'designed' to work in this manner but I think it stops ovulation in 25% of women. If this is the case then it may be that your body hasn't started ovulating again yet which may explain why you haven't yet had a period. I had regular periods throughout the whole time my Mirena was in place (2.5years) which is probably why I had my first 'post coil period' exactly when I expected it.

for peace of mind though I would definitely take a test. There is no point fretting about the possibilities about it when only a test will give you your answer x
