Paternity leave & Mat B1

Hi, im after some advice...

Im 25 weeks pregnant next Tuesday.

I thought dp had told his work I was pregnant. With the previous dc I don't remember him doing anything apart from just verbally telling his then employer that I was pregnant.

He asked me last night when I'm getting my Mat B1 form, as apparently thats what he needs to hand in, by Tuesday do he can get paid paternity leave.

Im not even in London on Monday & I don't have an appointment with the midwives until im 28 weeks. Can the G.P issue a Mat B1? Im self employed & entitled to the lowest level of help financially so I had decided not to take as little time off as possible- only 2/3 weeks. I work from home & all other dc are at school so i wasn't going to bother applying for Maternity Pay via the government as it would only be a few weeks & not worth the hassle!

So who issues a Mat B1 & if dp doesn't hand it in by Tuesday-when I will be 25 weeks, will he lose the right to paid Paternity Leave?

TIA!

Thanks lagoonhaze.

I've downloaded the SG3 & he will hand it in today.

Dp's boss told him yesterday he had to submit the MatB1.

I told him to tell them he's not obliged to submit the Mat B1 form & if they carry on speak to the union rep as thats what dp pays his union fees for.

I will ring my gp anyway but the gp is generally fairly useless so I would be surprised if they help. Im not in London on Monday so it will have to wait...

Dp should have organised this so im putting it back on him. If his employer refuses to pay, tough- he'll have to take the leave unpaid.
