Bounty Packs. What a load of bullshit.

Was given two packs of shit from the ante-natal clinic when I went for my 12 week scan. Initially I said no thanks, but got this Shock Hmm from the nurse and from DH. I said I didn't agree with the bounty reps being allowed access to the wards in principle. More Hmm.
DH and nurse, said oh just take it, there might some good stuff in there.
Outnumbered, not wanting to appear ungrateful, with a full bladder and too sick and exhausted to argue I took it.

Two weeks later I open it up. 99% of it has gone straight in the bin and recycling. DH has two teabags. And a single dishwasher tablet has been thrown in with the current open box. I have a pen and some vitamins of the same kind I buy anyway. oh and one of those pointless little towels, too small to wrap a baby up in, i might use it to wash the floor of the downstairs loo.

Now what the fuck was all that about? 3rd pregnancy, too long in the tooth for this shit.

I have prepped DH for any potential Bounty Rep invasion pot DDs birth Grin. She is our first. One of the things I love about my husband is his ability to not take crap.

Romily · 11/10/2013 21:49

I quite liked getting my bags in my first pregnancy and have had some great things in my two so far in this pregnancy. Mind you I was lucky that the rep wasn't pushy in the slightest.

GuffSmuggler · 11/10/2013 21:55

I got this at my 12 week scan as well, I'm sure they didn't used to inflict this crap on you so early on!

I agree wholeheartedly, the whole lot when in the bin. Also, as I'd not long ago had an MC, I really wasn't ready at the 12 week scan to be given a load of baby nonsense. The ward rep will be getting short shrift from me this time, MN has taught me how to stand up to these imbeciles!!

TKKW · 11/10/2013 21:56

Didnt you get the packs from argos and another one from boots? They were better than the rubbish bounty pack.

I got a sample of nappy rash cream, a full pack of johnsons wipes, 50 ml baby wah, 100ml baby oil, 4x size one nappies, a portion of cereal, sample bottle of simple moisturiser and all the things you mentioned.

Yes, a lot of crap to recycle.

I didnt get hassled by the bounty rep, didnt even see one when I stayed in hospital 3 days with dc1.

nevergoogle · 11/10/2013 22:01

the sample of nappy rash cream is a pot the size of thimble, and it's a 3rd full. pointless.

no, i rarely go to the shops so won't be collecting any more crap from boots or argos.

can mumsnet not do one? one with a six month trial of prozac and a bottle of wine, and a discount voucher for the installation of a panic room in your home?

Don't forget chocolate.

Anothermrssmith · 11/10/2013 22:09

The only thing I kept from my first one was a decaf teabag. I took the voucher to boots to get the second one but filled it in with a fake name, fake address and fake town. The only thing I kept from the second was the tiny pot of sudocream (which wasn't even full!),baby not even born yet and I've used it all for the dry skin on my elbows! Will be writing in my notes that I don't want the bounty rep anywhere near me, warning hubby to tell them to piss of incase I'm out of it, and god help any rep who doesn't leave when politely asked if I'm not out of it, I'm not backwards in coming forwards and will rapidly be telling them where to go in no uncertain terms.

GuffSmuggler · 11/10/2013 22:14

Good idea another get it on your notes in case you're a bit out of it when they come!

SomethingOnce · 11/10/2013 22:51

The tiny grey pot of nappy cream was ace! I used it as a travel size pot for Neal's Yard Baby Barrier Grin

Sammi1986 · 12/10/2013 11:04

Erm newbie! What's a bounty rep?! I had my 12wk scan on thurs and wasn't given a bag of random crap, I feel left out ;)

nevergoogle · 12/10/2013 11:08

Really sammi, don't feel left out. Imagine a months worth of junk mail handed to you in a plastic bag. All designed to make you think you need all sorts of crap that you don't need at all.

LateBear · 12/10/2013 11:11

Totally agree, took the 1st one in ignorance then refused when they tried to foist another one on me later. 'They' being NHS staff so you think 'oo what's that better take it'. Got very Hmm looks when I refused the 2nd one.

Sammi1986 · 12/10/2013 11:12

Uh oh. Partner is an NHS nurse. He'll be the first to want one :/

nevergoogle · 12/10/2013 11:15

Have the recycling bin next to you when he opens it. Smile

Sammi1986 · 12/10/2013 11:31

Lol good idea.
So do people come to see you offering said junk after you have given birth?

nevergoogle · 12/10/2013 11:47

Yes, they have salespeople allowed to come onto the post natal wards. Very strange.

sammi read this and shudder, you need to prepare yourself to tell them to get lost!

I got a bounty pack every time i went to the hospital (quite a few extra visits) and each time i took one, took the washing powder/softner and little towel out, and threw the rest straight in the bin. The washing stuff ws great for making all baby's stuff smell of baby (never again coz i don't buy this expensive crap) and the little towels are great for the changing mat so the baby doesn't get cold and startled awake in the night.

Take it, take the useful stuff out and bin every leaflet without reading. You don't need any of that shite. And remember to give false contact info so you don't get bombarded with emails and calls.

I must say the bounty rep who came to see me in hospital was fine. Gave me a pack, asked if i wanted a photo (i declined and she didn't push it), told me my baby was gorgeous and went on her way. They are not all evil but if you are having a hard time don't be afraid to just ask them to leave.

PinkApple86 · 12/10/2013 12:02

I got the first bounty pack and naively filled in my details. now my email is full of wowcher voucher and online betting crap plus I get random baby catalogues through the door. Refused it in the post natal ward. I was going to anyway but the damn woman interrupted when the paediatrician (sp?) was doing ds check over. She soon left me alone. Plus I didn't fancy her taking my photo when I looked like death and charging me money for the privilege.
