Ecoballs for washing baby clothes

Anyone used them instead of detergent? They work fine usually but wondering about their effectiveness on heavy soiling?

I used them with my first even for washable nappies. They aren't too good with stains but you can use a separate stain remover. Stopped using them for nappies after a while as they still smelt a bit of wee ( think it must have been a build up over time).
