I am 5 weeks pregnant.

Despite being exhausted, absolutely aching with it, at night I can't sleep, partly because that's when I start feeling sick for some reason. I don't actually vomit, just feel nauseous.

Can I take sleeping tablets safely when pregnant?

It's horrible and it's affecting my work as I feel so tired I barely feel awake during the day.

I would doubt it. The types of medications you can take in pregnancy are very limited. You would at the very least need to discuss it with your GP before doing anything. Sorry that's probably not what you wanted to hear. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Unfortunately sleeping tablets are out of the questions as they will pass to the baby!

I had utter exhaustion in the early days too and had to sneak to the toilets in the afternoons at work because I found it hard. That meant making myself do all the work in the morning so I was still keeping up. Then at night, I would get a couple of hours and wake up. Unfortunatly for me, the insomnia hasn't really left me, but I did get through the exhaustion at about 14 weeks!

Another thing I did was to try and do all my chores in the week so I could slouch all weekend. So even if I wasn't sleeping, I was resting.

And, I went to the gym two or three times a week which would help knock me out at night, and ironically, give me a little more energy in the day!

Sorry it isn't necessarily what you want to hear, but it isn't for long and there are coping mechanisms you can emply. You might find you feel better really soon.
