Thanks in advance! Smile Just wondering what I realistically should and shouldn't do to protect the baby? I'm very healthy, a good weight, fit, and I take folic acid. I'm ok to keep exercising as normal, right? I run, ride, go to the gym, swim, and do yoga and pilates. Can I still drink occasionally, like a glass of wine/beer a week or something? What else should I know?

Firstly congratulations o your pregnancy.

The advice regards to exercise is that you can keep up what you normally do but don't start any new strenuous exercise. The NHS guidelines on alcohol are here: www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/alcohol-medicines-drugs-pregnant.aspx which recommend no alcohol in teh first 3 months and then limit it to 1 or 2 units of alcohol no more than one or twice a week. There are also some foods to avoid which are listed here: www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/foods-to-avoid-pregnant.aspx

I hope this helps Smile

Thankyou Grin. Bugger, I just bought some camembert... Is melting classed as cooking? We were going to make something tomorrow where it's melted over vegetables in the oven - will that be ok do you think?

Didn't realise no alcohol at all was recommended for first three months. Yikes.

Congratulations!

If you haven't already, go and look in MN Clubs to find the chat thread for those at the same stage of PG as you are. There will be first-timers and old hands, and lots of mutual support.

There really isn't much else you need to know, for now!

Camembert needs to be cooked until steaming hot all the way through so if it's going in the oven I should think it would be fine.

It's up to you what you take from the advice. People tend to adhere to it to different degrees, largely based on personality, experience and difficulty in ttc.
Just to give you some comparisons...
I don't drink during first 12 weeks but after that will have a glass or two of wine a couple of times a week.
I eat everything
I exercise as long as I can as much as I can

But I've been lucky twice and fall pregnant pretty easily.
