This says that the embryo travels to the womb and implants when you are six weeks' pg.... but I thought implantation had happened by the time you miss your period, and that was classed as 4wks pg???

According the the NHS website the baby is implanted by 4-5 weeks pregnant.
Perhaps MN isn't infallible?

hmm yes, i have to admit i'd never really thought about it, but having googled it appears that implantation does happen a lot earlier on!

Implantation takes place at approximately 5 ish days post ovulation, something like 5-7 days. That is how you can get a positive test at three and a half weeks since your period. If the embryo was still in the fallopian tube till six weeks you would not know you were pregnant.

It has a bit of a blurb about how pregnancy starts, but then the stuff specific to 6 weeks is lower down. Is the implantation stuff not just part of the introduction. Background if you will.

Ahhh I don't think it says that t implants at 6 weeks. It gives a bit background then further down the notes it then specifically says what the baby looks like at 6 weeks. Oh am I not reading it right? I can't see anywhere that says implantation occurs at 6 weeks.

Haven't read it but I know it all get's quite confusing with the different weeks as pregnancy is counted from the day you started your last period even though you only ovulate aprox two weeks later, if you are '6 weeks' that is counted from the first day of your last period even though actually it has only been 4 weeks since you got pregnant, if that all makes sense. So maybe when mn says 6 weeks really they mean 4 weeks but medically it's called 6?!

Off the top of my head without looking it up, implantation occurs before a missed period and hormones are released, otherwise you would have a period and the fertilised egg would be washed away. What happens at 6-7 weeks is at the placenta takes over nourishing the embryo, before that the yolk sack is doing the job. That's why it doesn't matter if you don't know you're preggo and you get drunk or eat the wrong things before that point because the baby isn't feeding from your body yet. Could this be where the confusion lies or have I just missed the point? x

However, I think, in Mumsnet's defence, that as their pregnancy calendar only starts at six weeks and no earlier, that's why it's mentioned there. But they should clarify it happens earlier all the same!

Ahh, thanks all - I see what they mean now. I assumed they were describing what happened at six weeks pg right from the beginning and confused the hell out of myself!
