Naff name, I know.

DP and I have never had a holiday abroad together and now I'm 6wks PG. he wants to go away to the Caribbean for a hol before baby but I'm not so sure.

Anyone done it? Is it safe? My hols usually involve a lot of partying and I'm not convinced I'd even enjoy a sober one, let alone even get on board a plane without a large wine. Grin

I'm in my 40s, previous MC and had a heavy bleed this one already. I'm going on baby aspirin from 12 wks. It feels a bit risky but it is our last chance for aaaages.

DH and I went to Cyprus when I was 9 weeks and then Scotland at 33 weeks. Both were crap.
It is safe to fly until 32 weeks (I think?!) so that shouldnt be an issue, andI would say a holiday alone before baby is important.
At 9 weeks I was shattered, sick and sleeping all the time, I also got sunburn for the first time eve and was horribly bloated and constipated and terrified I would lose the baby abroad.
At 33 weeks it was just horrid too.
A holiday in T2 is probably the best idea. If you want my advice, do not spend a lot, the guilt of you dont enjoy it is huge. And do not pressure yourself to sighsee or even get off a sunlounger if you dont want! x

Plan a holiday with stuff to do. Without sounding patronising, you can still have a good time without the booze.

I went to Glastonbury festival from wed to Monday and had an amazing time. I have been 11 times and this year was definitely one of the best times. I had a can of cider a couple of times, but that was it and I am seriously taking so much less booze next time I go.

PinkWitch803 · 01/10/2013 14:34

Btw, I was 14 weeks when I went.

I am not sure if I have helped!

JoJoManon · 01/10/2013 15:17

I am 32 weeks pregnant. I have been to Miami once, Ibiza twice and Marbella twice in that time. ie I also like partying..
I didn't have so much as one alcoholic beverage the whole time and still went partying in all destinations. It can be done!

fackinell · 01/10/2013 15:23

Yes thanks, very helpful to have opinions. It sounds a bit pathetic to be thinking of the alcohol aspect but a nice meal with wine kind of makes a holiday for me. I'm fine on Becks blue and alcohol free Kopperberg here when I feel like a drink.

We've given ourselves a first trimester sex ban this time as DP felt uncomfortable last time and I was a little panicky about bleeding again (as we did after sex before) so can't even have a naughty time of it.

I think I'll try and persuade him to do up the house a bit instead. There are some big refurb jobs to do. I priced New York for a Christmas shopping trip but its a bit pricey. That I could have handled. Thanks for your help. Smile

I've been away w each of my pregnancies. At 17 weeks w DC1, which was lovely (South of France). At 4 months w DC2 to the Med w DC2. Ireland at 16 weeks w DC3. For obvious reasons, France was prob best, though we've also had weekends away during each pregnancy, which were lovely. Build in naps/pampering and it'll be lovely!

Cupcake11 · 01/10/2013 15:37

I went to Spain for a week with friends at 8 weeks and it was great. I found the rest and vitamin D made me feel so much less sick and tired than being at work in the UK.
The only thing I found to be a bit of a pain was that I felt a bit guilty that I wasn't drinking for my friends. I didn't want to feel like I was ruining their holiday. I would say if it's just the two of you it would be great - no pressure to do anything but rest and chill out together - bliss!
We've got a week in New York at the beginning of December which I'm sure won't be quite as relaxing!

LlamaLover · 01/10/2013 15:56

I had a week in Venice when I was 20 weeks pregnant, not too long a flight and had a lovely time walking (and eating!) my way around the place! :)

Mnippy · 01/10/2013 15:57

It's a great idea to go on holiday. Makes you feel like a person and not just an incubator! Remember morning sickness often lasts until 4-5 months, so I would say months 5-6 are usually the best. We had holidays at the end if the first trimester, the second trimester and the third - the second was def the best one. Just don't plan to do too much, and enjoy some lovely food and romantic dinners without a baby screaming!

fackinell · 01/10/2013 18:32

Thanks all, you make it sound so lovely and relaxing. I really do fancy Christmas shopping in NYC. I may have a look again. We have both always fancied there and it's not the sort of holiday you'd expect to be boozy. Even a long weekend and seeing all the Christmas lights would be amazing, I'm SE and had a bumper month of sales. Maybe I should treat us before we are skint forever now!! Grin

I went to Cyprus at 24 weeks and it was great! I was worried about the not drinking thing as well but just made more of the days and ate loads! Enjoy the opportunity to read as many books as you can and sleep!

roweeena · 01/10/2013 19:32

Do it, do it , do it. The last chance you will get to truly relax. Go in second trimester, have ska treatments and spend some time together.

I wish I could have another baby moon!

greentshirt · 01/10/2013 19:44

Cyrpus and NYC seem to be the locations of choice for all us pregnant women!

I went to cyprus at 10 weeks, it was fine, I was much less tired than I had been and was a little worried about the heat but it was quite cloudy some days so overall it was ok. I was more miffed about avoiding lovely rare meat and some seafood as didnt think it was worth the risk.

We are going to Poland when I will be 15 weeks for a wedding, then im going to ny with my sister at 20 weeks. I could do without both of these trips to be honest but they are booked now! Also they are really helping to break up the time at work before xmas and after that i'll be on the home straight to maternity leave!

Mnippy · 01/10/2013 19:45

Yes, have a pregnancy massage and spa break! I did while on holiday, it's just another thing to make you feel indulged.

tgamble13 · 01/10/2013 19:59

i went to portugal when i was 15 weeks did not enjoy it too bloody warm and i didnt feel comfortable sunbathing and am normally a sun worshipper, didnt enjoy walking about either as it was too warm and then i got tired at night and was tucked up at ten pm it was depressing Sad if i was to ever go away when pregnant again id only to a city break for a long weekend

AhoyAhoy · 01/10/2013 20:00

I wanna go to Cyprus or NYC!! We never had chance to go on holiday and now it's too late. Do it- I felt great between 14 and 30 weeks, wish I could have enjoyed a change of scenery just me and my husband before our world gets turned upside down. We are planning a date this Friday- very likely our last for a while now, 36 weeks so not long left. Enjoy!!

Brandnewmamma · 01/10/2013 20:03

We went to Gdansk on Poland when I was 20 weeks or so. Loved it. I am glad I didn't leave it much later as felt to heavy to be walking so much and was happy at home.

Congrats on your good news.

onenutshortofasnickers · 01/10/2013 20:18

I went to Cyprus at 13-15 weeks and it was so hot I hated it; headache, bloated, feet swelling etc

I felt like I was melting the whole time- I did have fun but we booked the holiday well before I was pregnant and if I could have changed it I would have stayed in England- I don't cope with heat anyway!

Saying that most people are fine and your not too big then and if you want to and you feel fine; do it! You'll have fun and enjoy it probably and it will be nice and better to do it now, rather than after baby.

I think based on everyone elses responses as well you will be fine!

SnotMyProblem · 01/10/2013 20:33

I went to Singapore and Malaysia when about 11 weeks with DS (aged 37, previous mc's). However I'd paid for the tickets months before and wasn't going to waste them! I was extremely lucky in that I had no noticeable tiredness or sickness, which was just as well as it involved quite a few bus and boat journeys, and I had a lovely time. We went to Valencia as well on that pregnancy and found that a really good city to visit as well.

This time, we went to France between 5 and 7 weeks, and I spent most of the holiday feeling tired and sick (found out 10 days after we came back that there were twins in there).

For me, it just depended on how I felt. If you feel OK, and there are no medical reasons, do it! I've been to NYC once and loved it - it's an amazing city.

fackinell · 01/10/2013 21:10

Thanks everyone. I haven't been brave enough to suggest it to DP yet as he will jump at the chance. After posting I started looking at DIY brochures and thought how I could could do up the bathroom and install a wet room for the cost of a NYC trip. It's gonna be around 1500 plus spending. Argh!! Grin

Is everyone this flaky when pregnant or just me?
