Pregnancy related accidents - or plain stupidity

Thought this precautionary tale might cheer a few people up...

I was ironing some trousers the other day and forgot how close I was standing to the ironing board - managed to swipe said iron across bump producing a lovely wide burn mark. Which will not fade but STRETCH as the weeks progress (currently 25w)

The thing is ... this is the second time I've done this . Am I extraordinarily stupid or has anyone else managed to iron their baby? Twice?

Ouch! Funnily enough my sis did that yesterday while on the phone to me (she's not pg though). Hope it doesn't itch/hurt too much.

Maybe your baby will be nice and smooth.

I did it too. Midwife looked at the bump and said, "ironing?" . Apparently it happens all the time....

PinkTulips · 27/06/2006 17:45

i've opened doors straight into my bump countless times, made myself bleed yesterday

also have a habit of cookin wearing small tops due to the heat and splashing oil all over poor bump.

oh... and i sunburned the bump horrifically a couple of weeks ago, it's still peeling.

god it's no wonder the poor little fella kicks the crap outta me, i kinda deserve it!

PandaG · 27/06/2006 17:47

not ironing, and not really pg related but....
I was watering a plant while on the phone to a friend, while pg with DD. I overbalanced, broke planr pot and slashed the base of my thumb. Blood everywhere, so there I am teatowel wrapped around thumb, arm elevated, still on phone to friend to calm me down. Rang off and called DH to come home quick - left DS with neighbour - who regularly babysat for us, and dashed to minor injuries unit for a couple of stitches. Worst thing was DS though there was something wrong with the baby as I had bled all over my bump!

I nearly ironed dd2 a few times, and one time misjudged how large my bump was when walking through the back door and banged it on the handle and it hurt a lot!

Kathy1972 · 27/06/2006 18:23

Bashed my bump really hard when opening a bottle of wine with an old-fashioned corkscrew.
(I did not, as it happens, drink any of said wine.)

BadHair · 27/06/2006 18:27

Not ironing, but I have noticed that I have minor car accidents when I'm pregnant. Really should keep a dustpan and brush in the boot when I'm pg.

Not ironed my bump but when I was pregnant with 1st, decided to have pancakes for my tea. Forgot that my stomach stuck out a bit too far and ended up tossing the pancake up in the air and landing in back in the pan and on top of my bump! Lovely red burn mark as I had got a short top on! Got p*ss taken out of me for ages.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one - I was wondering how to explain it to the mw...

Not sure how I can cut down on the amount I iron as I only iron the things I need to wear that day - I hate it! Will try to avoid bump in future, tho, as it does sting.

Will keep an eye out for toilet doors as well - nearly got stuck in one at work the other day.

totally sympathise, so far am

  • dropping food, toothpaste etc down bump, cos it sticks out more than I think
  • getting it wet when doing the washing up
  • knocking stuff off shelves in the shop
  • bumping people with it when going through doorways

but also having lots of minor mishaps due to my preg brain, forgetting things, leaving stuff in places, dropping keys down the lift shaft, that kind of thing.. hope I can stay in one piece till the birth!
