First trimester cold - What can I take?

I didn't see a thread on this and I can't be the only one:

I'm only 6 weeks but I have what I can only describe as a 'manflu'-style cold. My sinuses are exploding and oozing and I can't help but want to stay in bed and feel sorry for myself.

Last night the pharmacist told me I couldn't have a Vick's vapo inhaler but today another one told DP that I could have paracetamol, so I've taken a couple of those over the course of the day.

I'm trying my best with ginger and lemon hot water and I've even had garlic in olive oil (natural antiseptic/antibacterial), but is there anything else? I just feel awful!

Unfortunately theres not much you can take. There is a thread on here with lots of suggestions of things that will help.

You can take paractemol, robutissin cough medicine (dm), honey and lemon worked wonders for me, lockets and bizarrely, rubbing eycalyptus oil on my feet! These were the only things I found that were safe that got me through the coughing and sore throat phase.

I had this, proper horrible flu for 10 days from about 6 weeks. I used a plain steamy bowl of water with a towel over my head, found it cleared the snot out!!! Paracetamol too helps, it will pass!!!!

Thanks guys! I was just so upset last night when the pharmacist said no to a vapo inhaler, which I thought should be fine since I just breathe it.

Teabird - I've always been squeamish about the steamy bowl of water trick, but beggars can't be choosers at this point, so I'll give it a go.

I'll have to look into robutissin MissRatty. I'll send DP out in the morning to forage for it if I'm still feeling this rotten.

You can also use Vicks vapour rub which I find great on my chest or on a tissue to sniff at to help clear your passages. I read somewhere that honey is particularly good so I have been having honey and lemon drinks with the juice of half a lemon, lots of honey and hot water. Hope you feel better soon.
