Supposedly big baby/GTT dilemma....

Right, am 34 weeks with number 5, have been having growth scans due to previous big babies, at 31 weeks estimated fetal weight was 5lb, they said this was big and sent me for a GTT, had that done, results all clear, had another growth scan today at 34 +1 and estimated fetal weight is now 7lb 8oz???!!! I a a bit shocked to be honest, but never had growth scans with the other 4, so have no idea how much they were at the same stage, sonographers seemed a bit shocked and muttered away between themselves and sent me to fetal welfare dept where they have booked me in for an urgent GTT again tomorrow, only 2 weeks after my last one....dilemma is, well, I don't want to do it, can I suddenly be diabetic when 2 weeks ago my GTT was clear, plus a week ago at clinic my urine was dipped, no sugar....and, I am struggling to believe a baby can weigh 7lb 8 at 34 weeks.....going for the test is really inconvenient tomorrow, options are, suck it up, get it over with, or, don't go, or, rearrange for another day....what would you do? Oh, and has anyone else been told their baby was 7lb 8oz at 34 weeks!Shock

My 2nd was guessed to be 7lb6oz at 36 weeks and was 9lb8.5oz at birth at 39 weeks. This was using computer measurements at the growth scans.

My 1st was 10lb14oz, but they didn't guess his weight prior to birth so I can't tell you what he might have weighed before birth.

I didn't have GD either.

Oh and good luck! My enormous babies were utterly beautiful and I bet yours will be too.

i did have growth scans with my 1st i cant remember what they said she was at the scans but they said expect big at birth expect a good 10lber well i went into panic mode after this and i went overdue by 5 days anyway although she was no means tiny she was 8 pounds 5 ounces at 40+5 so their weight estimates are not allways correct and with my 2nd they said another good sized baby but didnt say huge she was born at 41 weeks gestation and weighed in smaller at 7 pounds 8 ounces im now on dc3 and havent needed growth scans this time and they havent yet once mentioned that baby is big or gonna be quite a size so who knows anyway dont panic their estimates on their scans take care

OP I was born 2 weeks early at 11lbs and my mum didn't have GD. And she was only a size 10!!!
Her waters broke on the toilet, she crawled they the kitchen and I was subsequently born ten minutes later on the dining room floor.I maintain that gravity took over. My poor mum!!

The only way to make sure is to have the test. If you do have GD, there is increased risk of stillborn. No brainer really.
I also have big babies & so get tested for GD...so far, they have always been -ve but it's always a possibility.

Thanks for all the replies, it's good to know big doesn't necessarily mean diabetic, never had it in any of the other pregnancies, I have fasted from 9 so I guess I'll go in and just get it over with, just a pain in the bumConfused
