Protein in urine but not high bp - what might it mean?

I'm 33+6 and spent all day wed and all day yesterday in triage with suspected pre-eclampsia, although they are fairly confident now I was having my first ever migraine.

On Wed I had a trace of protein in my sample and yesterday protein+1. No one really mentioned this other than to say it was there and I wondered what it could mean if it doesn't accompany high bp?

(I had one high initial bp reading on each day but the rest were fine and they said they used the wrong size cuff both times with the high readings must have chubby arms )

Is the increasing protein a possible sign of problems to come or just one of those things?

Dr google says protein in urine can be a sign of dehydration, standing for long periods or UTI - or just a contaminated sample!

But my general philosophy is if they're not worried, don't worry!

I've had exactly the same thing this week and have been told all is fine and not to worry.

Oh great, sounds like nothing much then really, thanks.

That's a good philosophy LadyMedea! A midwife is coming to the house tomorrow to check my bp and I'm back at hospital for the whole bp profile / ctg on Monday so I'm being well looked after!

I have strep b, which was discovered because I had protein in my urine, meaning I had an active infection in my urinary tract.

If you have strep b you need an IV drip of antibiotics as soon as you go into labour- it might be worth chasing them on this.

Oh thanks for letting me know about that, I know that they sent the first sample to the lab after the trace of protein but I haven't heard anything more so I'll chase it up when I go back on Mon. I'm guessing thats the kind of thing they would be testing for?

Wipe before you wee.

discharge

PinkParsnips · 28/09/2013 18:22

Oh heck really Hawkmoth...

That could be it you know, because I had to have an internal examination on wed and the doctor said it looked like I might have a yeast infection starting, even though I dont have any outward symptoms of it ...

Oh well thats easily sorted if thats what it is, thanks.

That's useful advice Hawk...Had my first trace of protein in while pregnancy last week, the day after using a canestan pessary for thrush Blush BP normal. Could explain things!

I have had trace protein a few times in the past, but not since I started with wipe, wee a bit, wee in bottle. If it were coming from my kidneys it would have still been in there.
