Does this sound like a UTI?

I started to feel ill yesterday lunch time. I had a headache, bit sick & generally unwell.

I went to bed for an hour in the evening & slept for 3 hours. Something i never ever do!

Woke up this morning feel horrendous. Pain in my back & left side. Headache is even worse. Feel really weak & unsteady on my feet. I feel as if Im bursting for a wee but i only pass a small amount. Its as if I've got flu with backache.

Called GP but no appointments left -at 8.45am!

Is there any point in calling my midwife. Shes not in clinic on a Friday. I don't know what to do. I have to pick ds up at 330. So time is an issue.

What would be the best thing to do?

Thanks!

Are there any walk in clinics near you?

Hawkmoth · 27/09/2013 11:41

Phone the midwife team or labour ward. You don't want to be worse over the last sunny weekend of the year!

BopsX3 · 27/09/2013 11:43

I had terrible UTIs through my whole pregnancy. Altogether I had 12 separate lots of anti biotics for every UTI, sometimes I couldn't even get to the doctors to get anti biotics. You defo need to see your GP. I had my GP come to my house a few times because I literally couldn't move.

I was freezing and violently shaking one minute and boiling hot the next, throwing up, passing out, felt like I had a knife stuck in the lower left side of my back, couldn't stand up straight, couldn't eat or drink anything but water and have no energy what so ever. It was horrendous! Turned out the UTI had travelled to my kidneys and apparently I should've been in hospital for intravenous anti biotics everytime I had one, but my GP never mentioned hospital to me so I never went. I lost 2.5 stone through that pregnancy, I weighed less afterwards than I did before I was even pregnant.

Please get some medical attention, insist you need to see the doctor or ask if they can come to you

Im nothing like you describe Bops.

Its my 40th birthday today- never mind a sunny weekend.

I don't feel confident to drive. I will call GP again. There is an emergency phone service from 430pm.

Yours could be a UTI though, mine had travelled to my kidneys so was quite severe, plus they were occurring which I think made it worse. I didn't get chance to recover from one before I had another

comfyonesie2 · 27/09/2013 12:02

Sounds like a UTI, you poor thing. Phone GP surgery again now, tell them you are x weeks pregnant and in agony & feeling very ill with a UTI and they should get a doctor to phone you back. No good waiting til 4.30! Dr will hopefully prescribe you antibiotics so you can pick up prescription today & ask you to bring a urine sample in with you. You need medical attention today. I had a UTI 3 weeks ago & it was awful, but they took it seriously and it was dealt with straight away, I felt better within 48 hours once meds kicked in. Hope you feel better soon & let us know how you get on.

WidowWadman · 27/09/2013 12:06

Get seen asap, if GP can't fit you in, ring the labour ward. I don't want to worry you, but I ended up in hospital on a drip with that and it can progress quickly.

Shellywelly1973 · 27/09/2013 13:55

The pain is getting worse. I've looked in my notes & theres a thing in there about maternity triage. I dont know if it would b appropriate to ring them.

I can't go into hospital because of the dc so its also making me wary of calling the hospital. My GP surgery doesn't open til 430 pm today.

I hope you're at the Dr now getting some antibiotics.

WidowWadman · 27/09/2013 19:35

Maternity triage is the right place to go. I hope you've seen someone by now and being treated.

Shellywelly1973 · 27/09/2013 21:30

Didn't manage to see anyone. No appointments at gp. They said I should go to A& E.

There's nothing I can do til Monday now. Dp away & all dc at home.

Will call gp again on Monday if I'm still unwell. Chances are, I will be fine by Monday!

OP posts:
Hawkmoth · 27/09/2013 22:15

Or you might not be fine. Do you want to take that risk for the sake of a few hours of shit in the maternity triage? Your kids might surprise you and be lovely there. Please ring them.

I had a few UTIs this time and they weren't to be messed about with.

WidowWadman · 27/09/2013 22:29

Please don't take that risk. You could end up in premature labour or worse. UTIs in pregnancy are dangerous.

Shellywelly1973 · 28/09/2013 09:39

This is now ridiculous. Called maternity triage. They wont see me so my only option is A&E.

One of my dc is autistic so im trying to organise a babysitter. I will bring the other two dc with me.

I've been searching for links between uti's & labour but the information is conflicting.

I'm so sick of my Dr's. I hardly ever go because they are so rubbish...no changing Dr's isn't an option due to location& ds.

Dp knows im ill but he went to work yesterday evening. He will be back Tuesday.

Incredibly isolated & realising the baby's arrival will nake it so much harder for me. Nothing will change for dp.

What is your OOH service like? They may do a home visit under the circumstances, but don't get your hopes up too much as they are pretty strict.

It's awful being ill with no help.

Are you feeling any better today?

Shellywelly1973 · 28/09/2013 10:39

No they wont do home visits as no mobility issues. I don't feel as sick today but the pain in my back is worse.

Its actually quite scary as its made me realise how much im actually on my own. 'D'p is useless. He is due to have massive surgery in the next few months & I will deal everything by myself. I already do but I always hope he'll do stuff. He never has & never will!

I am in hospital and have been for 48 hrs because I delayed being anti biotics. Back pain implies it is spreading to your kidneys. It can cause labour. How many Weeks are you? If you are in the 3rd trimester call deliver suite and explain. They will treat you. Please get seen utis are a big cause of premature labour.

Shellywelly1973 · 28/09/2013 10:59

Im 23 weeks on Tuesday. Waiting on call to see if a girl I've used for babysitting previously can help out.

Its probably all going to be for nothing & I've not actually got a uti. I've has symptoms before but when the Dr did the test it was clear.
