Telling family before screening results

My dh and I can't decide when to tell our families that we're expecting. My dh wants to go straight from the scan all being well but I thought it took a few days to get the results of the screening.
We've had a couple of losses before and chose to only tell some of our family as they can be a bit full on with worrying about us.
I'm concerned that the screening might show something which would mean that continuing the pregnancy wouldn't be possible. I worry about putting them through the heartache of that when we've specifically tried to prevent that in the past.
I'm not very clear on what the screening can highlight so I could be over thinking it but you're advice would be appreciated.

I guess you could think of it in the sense of 'would they want to know, even if things went wrong'? would tell them if you were unlucky enough to suffer another loss? If so then maybe they would feel better to have known from the outset?
Having said that you may want to keep the news to yourself for now, as you said, and let them know the good news later?

Hi mammysam, thank you for replying. I'm comfortable with our mums and dads and even siblings knowing if something goes wrong at this early stage but aunts, cousins and grandparents... I just don't think they need to share our heartache.
Does anyone know how quickly we can expect the results?

We told people straight from our scan but only because I knew the NT reading was normal so there was no reason to expect Downs Syndrome. They told me if there were any concerns following my blood tests they would all within 2-3 days. If we heard nothing it meant that everything was fine, well, low risk anyway. They can't give a definite answer from the combined screening, they can only indicate whether you are high or low risk for any problems.

I told my mother and sister after my scan as the NT was textbook. Three days later I got the phonecall saying my bloodwork was so bad I was 1 in 34 for Down Syndrome, and due to one of the hormones being off the scale low, there could be placenta problems.

I didn't mind them knowing that though, I mean if we'd waited for the bloodwork results to come in then we'd have still told them the news, just with the caveat. If that scenario is fine for you, then go ahead and tell!

We aren't telling anyone until 12 weeks, even though we will likely have a scan at 10 weeks. Not for any reason other than I just want to get to 12 weeks first. I'm first time pg and quite anxious about mc. All this being said, I've told my sister because she's pg now, too, and she has been through a few cm and I knew I would want her to know if things went wrong.

Ohh I wish I could have had an earlier dating scan, I'm 12+4 now but my scans not until next Friday. I asked them for an earlier one and they moved it forward 4 days (cheers but not really what I was after). Congratulations by the way!
