Maternity clothes from ebay

Hi,
sorry if this is a daft question.

Im 8 weeks pregnant with second child in 3 days time. Ive put on 6 pounds already and am feeling that I will will only fit into my normal clothes for about 2-4 more weeks.

I could buy new maternity clothes but I want to think about ebay used clothes. This time really want jeans as i just wore dresses and legging last time.

If I was buying from a shop, my max budget would be £20-30 but I want to try ebay to save a few £££s.

So if you buy some jeans for say £7 on ebay and then pay £3.50 for p+p, to me that's not insignificant. How can you know if they'll fit? If I bought x2 pairs that were rubbish and one good pair, then I might as well have bought new ones!

Most shops only do maternity stuff online and I live in a small town with only a new look and dorothy perkins, so cant try on things.

Im not really keen on re selling as I find it a bit of a pain waiting around for the listing to end.

Any tips on buying?

Thanks.

Sign up to local Facebook buy and sell groups. I've had some bargains from a few of them, not just maternity clothes either! No postage to pay as you go and collect.
Congratulations by the way! X

When I looked at buying stuff from eBay I found some of the things I wanted ended up costing a similar amount to the new look ranges of multipack maternity basics which I brought some of in the end. But then I'm not au fait with eBay so I probably could have looked harder!

ButterMyArse · 25/09/2013 22:02

Could you ask for measurements to make sure they will fit before you purchase?

42andcounting · 25/09/2013 22:05

You make good points! I did exactly this, bought jeans that came to about £10/£11 on ebay, they turned out to be far too long, and it would have cost me £9.50 to get them shortened locally. I've just been wearing them pinned up to be honest, but its a bit of a pain when the weather is wet. On the other hand I bought a maternity pair from New Look for just over £20 and have worn them to death!

My top tip is to check out New Look online, but order them in store so there is no delivery charge. I ordered loads of stuff, in multiple sizes, they had it sent to my home free of charge, and they were perfectly happy about me returning everything that didn't fit via the store.

My other top tip is to go 'over bump', rather than 'under bump', as they will stay comfy for longer as you get towards the end and are astounded how big your bump can actually get. I tried under bump with a bump band to cover the gap, but it all got a bit sweaty and undignified when bending over! Smile

BouncingBelly · 25/09/2013 22:06

What size are you, I may have some bits x

StinkerBoo · 25/09/2013 22:08

I nearly all my maternity clothes from eBay, make sure you read descriptions and ask the sellers questions (ie bust size or trouser length etc) if you need to. Bundles are a good bet too.

Stevie77 · 25/09/2013 22:11

What're these but and sell groups? If I look on FB it's all outside the UK...

TKKW · 25/09/2013 22:16

Thanks all.

I feel a bit like Im getting too big too soon!

See, not sure what size I am anymore. A large 10/ small 12!!!!! 5 ft 8 and 36a bra size.

Think I will try new look, never bought from there. Last time bought maternity from asda and matalan - they were ok but want different things this time.

HOw have you found your new look jeans 42and counting? What size did you go for - pre preg size?

Think I might look at wrap tops from Jojomaman and Isabella Oliver on ebay.

I bought my jeans in pre-pregnancy size but in the maternity range, and they have been great right from 12 weeks to currently 35 weeks. I have not actually put on much weight elsewhere other than my bump, which can probably be seen from space it's so big. I did have to stretch the elastic around the top of the bump section to make it a bit less tight as I got to 33 weeks or so, but now the bump has dropped and the head is engaged they are fine again.

Can also recommend their maternity/feeding bras, which seem to appear on the reduced rail fairly regularly, as long as you don't want a white one (they are never on sale for some reason!). You need to either get measured somewhere or do a lot of trying on for those though, pre-preg size won't work! Make sure you can fasten it on the tighter hooks early on in your pregnancy, and hopefully it should see you through to the end.

Sorry, anything I have will be too big for you. H&m have a good range too but I find you have to try on in store as the sizing varies.
I live near maidstone in Kent and some of the Facebook groups near me are as follows...
Maidstone babies & kids treasure chest
Sevenoaks mums network
Cranbrook pregnancy, birth and baby items wanted for sale or swap
Headcorn buy and sell
Maidstone freecycle

I'm sure if you search for similar names using local towns near you something will pop up. They are everywhere! (Freebay/fleabay is a common one)

i got a bit carried away even though im just 8 weeks tomorrow and have got ebay excited. should have a pink seraphine 3/4 sleeve warp dress arriving tomorrow. figured a dress would be easier to get right than jeans! i will get new look jeans i think in a couple weeks.

does anyone have the wrap dress from seraphine?

Hi there, I am currently 31 weeks pregnant with DC#2 and first time round I bought a wide variety of maternity stuff mainly from H&M and New Look. They were good, but sizing could be a bit random, especially with jeans as I ended up buying bigger than my pre-pregnancy size. This time my sister in law lent me some Topshop jeans in my pre-pregnancy size and they are fantastic! Really well-fitting skinny jeans, which are actually quite flattering and they come in different leg lengths too. They still fit me now, although are beginning to feel a bit tight, so not sure how much longer I'll get out of them, however I did buy a Primark pair for £11 also in my pre-pregnancy size and they are a little more generous.

As for Ebay, I was recently looking for a maternity dress for a special occasion and got really fed up being outbid for second-hand dresses selling for pretty much the same as you'd pay for a new one in the shops. I ended up buying a regular dress from Primark in a size bigger, but just in a style that stretched over my bump.

I also found that some online ranges such as New Look are often sold out of the most popular sizes, but as already mentioned the stores will order them in for you free of charge which is pretty good.

Good luck!

I've bought quite a few tops from eBay and in the main they've been fine, a couple haven't been great but only due to things you can't tell in a pic like the neckline being too wide so it slips off my shoulders etc. Mainly they've been fine but there's the 2-3 quid postage each time and messing about bidding.

I've also found h&m and new look the best for in store selection.

New look online have a great, cheap selection but I ordered a couple of dresses from there which had to go back as they didnt really seem like maternity dresses and didnt fit right at all!

firstimer30s · 28/09/2013 12:11

Hi TKKW I am 15 weeks tomorrow with baby #1 and bought my first few maternity clothes. As my bump is still quite small I bought some under the bump jeans. SOOOOO comfortable and I think they were about £12 a pair!! Luckily my local store had quite a bit to choose from. Debenhams currently have a sale I think and some of their maternity stuff is quite nice if you can get it reduced. I'm a fiend for finding clothes online in the sale. I started a thread on maternity clothes and people were suggesting brands such as jojo mama and Isabella Oliver but I refuse to spend that sort of money on clothes for myself. Maybe I'm tight but hey ho! I hope you manage to find some bits so enough and congrats! Thanks
