Induction and steroids?

Having had a plan in place for an induction at 38 weeks, I went to the hospital yesterday at 37 weeks expecting it to be booked, only to see a different consultant and be told that if I was induced before 39 weeks I'd need steroids, which, as I also have gestational diabetes, would require a two day stay in hospital.

Only the week before I'd been told by the usual consultant I see that my induction would be booked for between 38 and 39 weeks yesterday and there was no mention of steroids. However, they did say previously that steroids were needed if I was induced prior to 38 weeks.

Has anyone else been told they'd need steroids before 39 weeks? They've booked me for a sweep on thurs, but I'm keen to get an induction booked for next weeks for a huge number of reasons.

Never heard of steroids needed at 38wks, they tried to induce me at 38wks with ds1 due to SPD, no steroids.

37wks is term? And steroids are for baby's lungs? Very odd!

Thanks. I was booked for induction at 38 weeks last time (different hospital) and no mention of steroids. I went into labour naturally first though.
