Nobody warned me about Magnesium!

I'm 29+6 with twins and in preterm labor. I knew it could happen but didn't expect it this early. They've put me on Magnesium and it does seem to be working however...

Why didn't anyone tell me how awful the stuff is. I'm slurring, I'm flustered and feel like I've been whacked on the head with a baseball bat. Complaining and moaning online is the only thing stopping me from snapping at nurses wanting to poke me with needles. I don't mind needles, I just hate being touched when in pain. Rant over.

Hope your ok and it's over soon xx

Massive sympathy! It's one I've managed to avoid (somehow.. touch wood) but I have plenty of friends who have had it and they all say how utterly horrific it is.

Hang on in there! Same goes for your twins, too!!

What does the magnesium do?

Keep going, you will weather it. Keep moaning online, whatever gets you through x

The magnesium from what my doctor told me lowers the level of calcium in the uterine muscle cells and since calcium helps the muscles contract, magnesium makes them relax. That's all I really know. The side effects can be; nausea, blurred vision, headaches, hot flushes, even flu symptoms!

Contractions have stopped but keeping me on the magnesium for now. And a needle in the bottom is not pleasant!

From the sounds of it I'm sure the nurses are used to being a bit of punching bag (not that I'm recommending you do that!)

Hang in there, and vent away

yuk, that sounds horrible! It won't last forever but still horrible...
