The dreaded membrane sweep

Hi all

I have the dreaded sweep booked for tomorrow afternoon (am 41 weeks with baby no.2) and I was wondering if any one knew if it was safe to have when you have an ectropion cervix?

I feel like such a wally for not asking my midwife at my last appointment 3 weeks ago but it completely slipped my mind until yesterday!

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you :) x

I don't know personally, but surely they wouldn't do anything that wasn't safe to both you and baby?!

Good luck tomorrow :) you'll be holding a baby soon, yay! Grin (not jealous in the slightest Wink )

Ah thank you :)

I totally agree that they wouldn't do anything that wasn't safe but at my usual MW appointments it's never really been discussed, I've had so many midwives throughout this pregnancy that nobody really seems to know what's going on with me! And then I totally forgot to mention it. She told me that it was unlikely I'd need to have one, everyone thought this little monkey would be here by now! :)

I had an ectropion (possibly still do!) and had a sweep. Sweep did nothing as cervix wasn't ready but wouldn't have thought the ectropion would have made any difference as just different cells? I then went down the induction route and had a lot worse done, you'll be fine!

Thank you so much. I'm dreading it to be honest so think I'm just looking for any excuse not to have one haha!

It wasn't too bad, bit like a smear. It was more demoralising than anything as I wasn't prepared for her not actually being able to do one. Good luck!
