Breech babies, ECV and anyway of turning...bum in the air and moxibustion

Hello mums/mumstobe, thought I would share my experience of a breech and trying everything to turn her. I am 38+1 with no. 3, my first baby was breech and I had him naturally 14 years ago - doctors were super confident and I didn't even know there was increased risk!... times have changed and now it's c-section automatically. So I've tried everything, spinningbabies.com exercises, moxibustion and the dreaded ECV.... I thought I had a bad one last time but this was dreadful too. Remember the indiana jones movie when the evil cult guy reaches in through the mans chest to grab his heart - think of that! Feels totally unnatural, painful and traumatic - NEVER AGAIN! would love to hear your experiences..

ECV was horrendous. Never again.

That's what I said after my first one, this time 14 years later, bad memories had faded and I let myself be persuaded...also there are youtube videos with ECVs looking easy and successful so I though maybe I'd been unlucky before - I actually said this to the obstetricians half way through it on Thurs and they were like 'yeah right - you tube, it would look easy...'

I remember basically living on all fours when dd was breech and never sitting down slouched - made sure my pelvis was tipped forward etc. dd turned around herself but this was at about 34 weeks (was the oddest feeling ever - I had to get down on all fours to give her space to do it!)

The reason for the change is the lack of experienced MW in dealing with breech babies. Do you have the means to afford and independent midwife? They generally have more experience in this area. You could give one a ring for a consultation even if you don't use one for a chat? You can also use one and have a hospital birth.

Hi creatureretorts.... I'm just going with the C-section now. I am having contractions on/off - they stopped them on Thursday to try the ECV but I think I'll be in any day. I'm older and a lot more anxious this time around so want minimum risk for baby and like you say - fewer and fewer MWs and obstetricians are experienced in breech birth anymore - it's a vicious circle, they do them less, so they don't know how anymore! Good idea for other mums who really want a natural birth though to find one privately - I think you can ask the Royal College of Midwives...

That's understandable! I hope it all goes well!
