I read about it here and tried it and it's amazing! It called Baby scope app. It really brilliant app , and the way I see it - any fetal monitor for home usage cost at least x10.

Only thing you should be aware of , is to be in a quiet room - no TV or loud voices around you so you can clearly here the sound..

Be careful. Willing to be corrected but I've heard that it's fake, you're just hearing a recording of a fetal heartbeat. Any home monitoring system shouldn't be used for anything other than enjoyment - if you have any concerns, get yourself checked out. Don't rely on things like this.

Thank you for your concern but it def not a recording! I can understand the difference between my heartbeat and my baby, I can hear it. The app doesn't know when I put the iPhone on a chair or on my belly.... so I believe it works! :)

Yeah....not buying this at all! I don't think the iPhone - clever as it may be- is able to act as a Doppler. Nice try though!

Complete crap. My sister isn't even pregnant and apparently it found a baby's heartbeat in there! Sorry op, it's a recording.

I tried it and it heard my baby! Except I'm only 6 weeks and no Doppler can pick up my baby's hb yet!

I found my heart rate in my baby bump but despite a midwife finding babies heart rate easily the same day this app couldn't! It might work later in pregnancy (I'm 19 weeks) but it certainly doesn't work before 20. I wouldn't waste your time or money.

That doesn't make sense! If we can't hear it then how is an iPhone's microphone supposed to? I don't think an iPhone is THAT advanced. I don't think the science is there. None of the equipment in the phone would be able to let that happen. Total waste of money!

They are just cashing in on worried parents to be which is horrible.

Even if it can pick up your baby's heartbeat in utero, that doesn't guarantee your baby is ok.

I saw my midwife recently (32 weeks) and mentioned baby had been quiet and not moving much that morning, and she explicitly told me not to rely on the fact that she had heard the heartbeat that day. Movement is a much better indicator of foetal wellness apparently.

I've been using it and my midwife used it too and said it works.

We tested it against the doppler she was using and the heart rate came out the same.

Not a scam.

I just got it to amuse myself when I was bored. Didn't work until about 20 weeks though.

If you're doing it to reassure yourself though, don't! I sometimes can't pick anything up. Only a couple of times and he was kicking like crap so I knew he was fine.

I've shown it to 3 midwives now and they all said it was awesome and they'd tell other patients.

My non pregnant mum used it and picked up a heartbeat so I'm sorry but its crap !

She did not hear her heartbeat. She's a nurse, she knows it was not her own heartbeat.

Daniellie after 8 pregnancies (this is number 9) I can assure you with out a doubt I know the difference between my heartbeat and my baby's heartbeat. I can assure you 100% I am 6 weeks along (I had a scan last Friday) I tried out this app and could hear a baby's heartbeat. there is no way a doppler can pick up a heart beat at this stage in pregnancy and no way an iphone can pick up a heartbeat this early on. if it could the technology would be being used widely accross private hospitals and filtering down into the nhs, not being used on a 2.99 app. Its crap. Dangerous crap that might make otherwise worried women not go and get checked out when they should

There is differences in speeds and loudness so you can tell if it is yours or not.

I am afraid that if you need a specialist machine to pick up the heartbeat and can't hear it if you put a digital recorder there, then a random iphone wont be able to.

Think about it - what's in the phone that allows it to do this?

I got it for fun and had no luck for several weeks. since then I have heard a baby heart beat (and my own separately) several times. I have tested it many times on my heart, my DH's heart, his belly, then my belly at different times. The only time I hear the quick high heartbeat is lowdown near the knicker line, on me. It worked from about 18 weeks but very faintly.

It appears to be an amplifier with some sort of treatment on the sound to bring out peaks and tone down background gurgling of digestion.

I am convinced it is real but of course no substitute for medical advice, count the kicks etc.

You can't imitate a medical stethoscope. It's a stethoscope.

A stethoscope has been used regularly in medicine since the 19th century. It is a tool for amplifying sound. A microphone is a modern tool for amplifying sound.

I cannot see how it is beyond anyone's consideration that a tool made 200 years later could be as effective as it's predecessor.

So can anybody explain how it picked up a heartbeat on my mum? And it most definitely wasn't her own heartbeat.
