E cigs in pregnancy

I'm 4+2 weeks in my second pregnancy. First one last year ended in MC at 8wks. I haven't smoked for a few years but I am hooked on the E cig and was on the nicotine gum too until my BFP yesterday.

Today I have asked my midwife and the pharmacist about the use of E cigs in pregnancy and nobody has any clue.

I'm happy not to use it if it carries any risk but I have been told I can use the gum or patches. I know that absorption and ingestion gives you 100% of a substance but inhalation is only 30%. Surely an E cig is then a better option?

Anyone used one in pregnancy or had it ok'd by GP or MW? Feeling a bit psycho mood-wise and it does help.

Have you spoken to a stop smoking advisor? I know they can support people to wean themselves off e-cigs. Unfortunately e-cigs are new to the market and aren't regulated so its unlikely any health professionals will endorse them as the safety of them is unknown. But if you see a stop smoking advisor they can put you on a 12 week programme of nicotine replacement therapy (patches or whatever you choose) and that might help you get off nicotine completely. Good luck :)

Thank you, Venus. The pharmacist did suggest that but also said I'd have to speak to my GP as even the cessation person couldn't ok it. I'm not keen to replace one nicotine product with another as I like the inhalation process mostly.

I will call GP tomorrow and also EPAC, as they wanted to speak to me about an early scan this time around. I will probably just hand it over to DP to hide as I don't want to take any chances this time!
