Hello everyone,

I'm just wondering if any of you have noticed any changes in your heart rate or rhythms since becoming pregnant?

I know our pulse is supposed to increase due to the increased volume of blood in our system, but how high is it supposed to go? The last two times I had it checked it was 100 and then 91. My blood pressure has also been a little high.

And has anyone had any palpitations? Or breathlessness?

I was on beta blockers prior to getting pregnant due to tachycardia and palpitations and they took me off them for the purpose of conceiving. I'm 12.5 weeks pregnant and over the last 3 days or so I have noticed my heart rate always seems higher and last night I sensed the odd palpitation or alternation of my heart rhythm though it only lasted a split second.

I guess I'm worried whether it is my previous symptoms recurring or whether it is just another normal aspect of pregnancy?

writer, ive noticed a few threads regarding this on mn recently. I have noticed increased pulse and palpatatiins, plus missed/heavy random heart beats. I hwas worried but other posters said that they had checked thiers out with mw/doc and its to be expected. I personally dont recall this from first two dcs bt this time im busier/prob more stresed, than previous times.
The fact you were on beta blockers and not now could be something to do with yours?

Yup. Out of breath at the slightest thing and palpitations. I am hoping its normal!

I'm under the care of an obstetrician who deals with women with cardiac conditions and I'm meeting him this Friday for the first time. I know I will have to discuss it with him, I just really don't want to have to go back on Beta Blockers Sad

Even walking up one flight of stairs sends my heart and respiratory rates racing. I might have expected it in later pregnancy but am worried that its happening this early.

ive had palpatitions thought i was experiencing anxiety happened to mention it to a colleague who's on her 4th preg and she reassured me its normal what with the increased blood volume and the extra work ur body is goin through

My heart is definitely going faster and it was pretty fast anyway! I also think some beats seem 'heavier' and its racing from time to time. Think its pretty normal

Thanks everyone, I feel a little bit more reassured now Smile

I was having a nosy in here and just thought I would post with my experience if it helps!!

I have had increased heart rate and palpatations with all three previous pregnancies, my last one the MW told me its perfectly normal as the baby develops the adult heart sometimes does this. Its something to do with how your body is acknowledging a little life growing!!

I had beta blockers prior to pregnancies but never during. It all went away by about five months too.

Hope that helps x
