Anybody superstitious about buying stuff for the baby?

Honestly I'm not usually - I'll happily sit in seat 13 on a plane, cross people on stairs, and dry my brolly inside the house open.
But....I'm feeling that buying baby stuff is tempting fate. I'm only 24 weeks so loads of time to get organised anyway but does anybody else feel like this? Not sure how I'm going to manage getting a pram/cot/sling/clothes because my rational brain says we need to sort it before we have him/her but the woo bit says don't risk it. Should I make a big list and send DH out when its all over and we have a real baby? not sure that's entirely the best plan based on the supermarket experience

I'm not superstitious about anything. However, I'd decided it was just not sensible to buy anything for DD till I was 36 weeks. I had it all planned, knew exactly what I wanted, but couldn't bring myself to buy anything except a pack of vests. Great plan, but my waters broke at 34 weeks, and DD was born a few days later... DH spent the day after she was born in John Lewis and Mothercare...

Why not make a list so at least you know what you want? Find out how long it would take for certain big items to arrive (and maybe have an alternative in mind, just in case)
First baby?
There really isn't that much you need to start with. Get a couple of babygros and muslins, a blanket or sleeping bag, some sudocrem and nappies. Think about feeding and maybe get a few essentials for that too - BF - get some lansinoh and breast pads (you might want to have a steriliser and a bottle or two and a carton of made up milk just in case) and more of the above if FF.

I felt the same with baby 1. I didn't start buying anything till at least 30 weeks. You do have plenty of time, so do your research then you can buy everything quickly at a later date :-)

Not generally superstitious but DP & I just couldn't quite believe it'd all go well, so we got almost nothing before baby was born. One pack of vests, one pack of babygrows, literally in the 39th week. I panicked & got a pack of nappies in Lidl - of course they were size 3 and way too big! Can't remember exactly when we got other stuff, but mostly we got it after DS was born.

The only disadvantage with that is that DP got all the fun of picking out clothes while I was in hospital!

I felt similarly but by about 34 weeks had a pack of nappies and a handful ofvests and babygros enough to pack a hospital bag for dc. I had cot which arrived at 35 weeks (john Lewis do next day delivery) we hadn't got round to ordering Pram and car seat when ds arrived at 36 weeks. what I can absolutely say about this is that you really don't need much pre baby arriving and although dh had to pop out for car seat (so we could take him home) everything we needed was available most days and think we saved a lot of money by him arriving early as didn't buy stuff we might have needed!

I didn't really buy anything until around 20 weeks-ish, just in case. I then bought everything I needed gradually up until I was due.

22 weeks here, made a list and bought precisely nowt off it. Have agreed with friends/relatives to borrow a lot of stuff so not worried & realistically the shops will still be open so as long as I've managed to motivate myself to buy the bare minimum by the time pootle puts in an appearance I figure we'll be grand

am at week 22 and so far have bought a baby bath, a vest and a blanket lol i want to start buying small things first and gradually build up. think its important to try to think positive why would anything happened anyways as long as u and baby r healthy and growing sure itll be grand ( my positive rant to myself daily)

Thanks puggle DD is now 13 years old and almost as tall as me. Sadly for me, her legs are already longer than mine. That is causing me almost as much trauma as her early arrival,

im not superstitious i did wait till my 12week scan then started buying to help spread the cost evenly by 20 weeks i had my crib pushchair sterlier bottles clothes :)

I am not superstitious but I did wait till the 12 week mark but that was only because of a previous mc in February. I am 24+5 now and we started buying at about 13 weeks from memory. So far we have bought all necessary furniture, some baby wear, bottle warmers, car sets, pram etc. the necessary is about to start been decorated in the next week. I am having a CS so we want as much stuff to be ready before she arrives.

Im 31+3, i started buying baby bits after my 12 week scan when i found out all was well. Then got my specific clothing etc when we found out it was a girl at my 20 week scan.
I like being organised and ready. Her room is all laid out and just a few more things to get now.
I know there are risks but im an optimist and everything seems fine so thats what i focus on.

I started gradually buying stuff after the 20 week scan this time.

With DD we left it all to the last minute when I was heavily pregnant and hormonal, and I had a meltdown in the middle of Ikea on a busy Saturday afternoon I'm not doing that again

With dc1 I started buying right away then at 20 wk scan found out it was a boy and no longer wanted all the gender neutral things I'd bought and went out buying boys things so with dc2 I waited until after the scan then went shopping. I don't think it's tempting fate at all, it's best to be organised! x

I'm not superstitious either but I did wait for the 12 week scan before I bought anything. I bought a few bits in between 12 and 20 weeks scan and now pretty much have everything sorted (26 weeks) apart from a buggy (I just can't decide what I'm going to need!).

The nursery is done too - I'm the main DIYer in our house and I wanted to do it whilst I was mobile :) Some people may think that's early, but I work for myself and won't be getting traditional maternity leave... one of my businesses is also online retail and knowing how busy the next few months would be I didn't want to run out of time beforehand with the Christmas rush. :)

I wouldn't buy anything before 6 months (long history of early MCs), I didn't feel home and dry till then. Did spend an inordinate amount of time online browsing, and pointless trips to John Lewis - ah, the JL baby dept, how I loved it.

I've gone completely the other way.. I am usually not in the slightest bit supersticious but at the begining of this pregnancy I was reluctant to buy anything until a friend said to me "Positive thoughts make positive things happen" and I thought about this and thought it isnt the baby's fault how I'm feeling and I felt as though by not buying anything or allowing myself to dwell on being pregnany I was almost denying her existence (and we have wanted this baby so much) and so now I've bought lots of things, talk to her a lot and I'm kind of indulging in her :) x

I felt a little bit hesitant, but it was DH who really didn't want to. I generally think of him as being quite cynical, but he is surprisingly superstitious about all sorts of things. I think we got a cot a few weeks before DS was due, and put it up about a week before. There were lots of handmedown babygros and vests around though, so DS was clothed in his early weeks!
