Should I be worried by these pains???

Hi Everyone,

I’m new to this, so please bear with me J

I am 3-4 weeks post conception (5-6 weeks dated from last period). I have undergone IVF (this is my 6th attempt), and finally I have a BFP!! My day 14 hCG was 202 and my day 20 was 2035, however as of day 21 I have had really bad back pain, bad period pain (like I am about to come on), and my breast are a little less sensitive, although this seems to vary throughout the day... I’ve been Googling constantly, and it all seems to lead to a possible miscarriage. There is no bleeding, although I am on progesterone medicine which could be stopping the bleed (Not too sure whether it would stop me bleeding or not).

I’m not feeling sick or anything. Has anyone else gone through this, or should I see my clinic??

All your advice would be really appreciated J

Congratulations on your bfp.

I think what you are describing can be totally normal. I'm sure I had period type pains with dd1 and I have never had morning sickness. But you are stressing so I think you should call your clinic so they can put your mind at rest (and after that, no more googling, it will drive you mad).

I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry. I've had period type pains with both pregnancies, one ended in a mc, and I'm currently 20 weeks with my second. The period type pains have actually been stronger this time, it freaked me out too but everything has been fine.

I asked the midwife about it and she said it was the uterus stretching. I have a retroverted uterus which she said could make it worse as it's got further to grow from.

I had period type pains and back ache on and off and I also had some spotting. Breast tenderness came and went as well, I was obsessed with checking them all the time lol Midwife said this is all normal.
I am now 19 weeks and still get occasional aches/pains.

I will stay positive and stop Googling for the rest of the wait for my early scan.

Stay away from dr google, it definitely isn't your friend

Crampy pains can be totally normal, as can a little bit of spotting at this stage. If you're at all concerned though, is there any way the IVF clinic can get you a scan to put your mind at rest?

Im currently 19 weeks pregnant after IVF. I remember those period pains. I really think they're normal! Good luck x

congratulations! Judt to say I too had period like pains in both my pregnancies. Hope this thread will reassure you a little. Try not to stress about it.

I had pains when I was about 5-6 weeks! I think it was actually constipation and trapped wind but ouch. Any chance it could be that?

The earliest I can have a scan is the 27th of September... Thanks to all your wonderful messages of support, I am going to try and relax. If it's meant to be, it's meant to be!

So, I thought I would follow up on my previous message, so that hopefully I can give hope to other women concerned by the stomach pains felt in first few weeks of pregnancy...

Went for my early scan on Friday 27th Sep and saw not 1 but 2 lovely little heartbeats!!

The pain was apparently very usual in twin pregnancies (and I am still having them from time to time).

Now I have 2 other things to worry about; Firstly the morning sickness, or should they be all day sickness, it’s relentless and making my life hell, not too sure if I can put up with this for another 5 weeks :( And secondly, the heart rates, one was 118 bpm and the other was 127 bpm at 7 weeks, don’t know whether that’s high enough for a safe pregnancy, so something else for me to Google and worry about ;)

I have had 2 rounds of IVF plus 4 goes at FET with varying levels of success and am currently 11w with DC2. I had a scan last year when they told me the h/b was too slow, but it was much, much slower than your ones - more in line with my own in fact. They clinic said there and then they were concerned and I had an agonising wait to see what would happen and it wasn't good news. I think if your clinic were at all concerned they would have said something at the time of the scan.

Were they both measuring about right for dates? Do you have another scan booked?

Stay away from google, it really doesn't help - believe me, i've been there! Hard as it is, stay positive and try to enjoy being pg.

Hi CurlyJ, I know exactly what you’ve gone through; IVF is both emotionally and physically exhausting and to have a negative outcome is devastating (because you can’t just start trying for another baby). But hey, on a positive note you have lots of frozens and are 11 weeks pregnant!!

The first little one measured 7 weeks exactly (127 bpm) and the second one measured 6w 5d (118 bpm).

I’m not now due a scan until my twelfth week, but we are going to pay for a private scan at 10 weeks, if everything is still OK by then, just to put my mind at rest.

You will be having your 12 week scan soon, right?

in my early weeks (6-8) I was always getting crampy period like pains. Sometimes I'd have acute twinges but other times it would be a persistent dull but I was reassured it was completely normal.

I'm now 14 weeks and still get the odd niggle and ache but I have accepted now that as things move and grow inside us we are going to have weird sensations and as long as they aren't acutely painful or accompanied by bleeding then generally they are nothing to worry about.

Congratulations all sounds totally normal,i had terrible period type pains on and off til about 8weeks and boob tenderness always came and went and I was lucky I didn't get much sickness. Its so natural to worry esp when you've tried so hard to get here, I'm 25 weeks now and wish I'd spent the first few weeks enjoying it rather than worrying but its so hard to do. Don't they scan you a lot earlier if its an ivf baby?? Try to stay away from google, although easier said than done xx

congratulations :) wonderful news.

Try not to worry, take each day as it comes.

If you're really struggling with sickness you can get signed off work. I went on reduced hours and it was fab, made such a difference.
