Maternity Tights

Anyone had any success with decent maternity tights?

Last time I got some from JoJo Maman which were, frankly, useless. I got away with it as I had an August baby, but this one is due in January so I will be needing a couple of pairs unfortunately.

I am usually a size 10 (pre-preg) with quite long legs if that makes a difference; i.e. probably a medium rather than small I would imagine.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Yes! I just ordered some from m&s to be delivered to store for free. Wore them on Thursday. Success!

They are comfy, feel strong, look like normal tights. I'm 35 weeks and went for XL, but I'm tall so would've bought L/XL pre-pregnancy.

I'd underestimated how hard it would be to get tights on at this stage ...

What about wearing hold ups? I used to wear them all of the time and you can get thick ones too which are perfect for winter.

I have decided to stick to trousers and I don't think I can bear the thought of negotiating tights and the bump early in the morning!

I love asos maternity tights - stay up well & no rolling down when wearing & nice & thick. Cost £8 a pair but worth it for a good pair of tights

I had h and m ones they were great

Currently wearing H&M ones and I am really impressed by them. Thick and warm and really comfortable.

I had H&M ones, about the same size as you and wore a medium. They fit me from small bump to big bump.

i have both h&m and m&s ones, bought a size larger than usual for both (hate too small tights) and the m&s are far comfier imo

I bought a pair in black and a pair in brown. Different web sites. The black is good and black, the brown is deep and chocolatey. Perfect IMO, and i'm fussy and my bump is sensitive to tight bands etc.

Seriously - they're great. Very soft to the touch, not shiny, not wooly, thick but not too thick, loads of room over bump. You can pull them up to your ribs and there they stay! I've washed them and treated them as i would a cheap pair and they're fine. No pulls or ladders (so far). The 2 seams over the bump are slightly noticeable through a smooth plain body-con dress - but it's getting less as i get bigger and they're stretching smooth.

I bought XL- i'm 5'6" and size 14/16 at 21 weeks. Try them.

I saw the thread title and was about to warn you off Jo Jo maman BeBe tights as they are crap! But see you know this already! Spent all last night hoicking them up!!x

I never understand people saying that they just size up in tights. I think it probably works ok if you are a bit shorter, but I'm 5'10 and if you look at the size charts, it's really only a large that will fit for length. XL might be bigger on the hips and waist but they are shorter in the leg!

Am assuming most tall people know that but just making sure!

I have the exact opposite problem to most of you. I am 5ft 1 and fairly chunky curvy and all the tights I try are designed for giraffes. What am I supposed to do with an extra foot of tights bagging about my knees?! Anyone found any good maternity tights for short-arses?

Hold ups, hold ups, hold ups.

Maternity tights were brilliant for about 3 weeks like a lot of maternity clothes - too big at the beginning so they fell down, then too small so they fell down and the baby clearly hated me wearing them. Plus, out of a pack of two, I would inevitably put my finger through one pair on the first wear which pissed me right off at £5 a pair.

You can get 40 denier opaques as well as more sheer ones.

Green - I agree! I'm nearly finished with maternity clothes this time, but when the change of season meant I needed to buy tights, so many people said "can't you just size up and buy XL?". Thing is, i'm 5"10 and aside 14 normally - I wear L/XL tights anyway!

I'll say it again though, m&s XL maternity tights have done me proud twice now! Only £6 a pair.

Ive got some ordinary tights from primark at the moment which are really high waisted so im going to try and get on with those for the moment. The other problem I have being tall is that 80 denier isnt opaque on me because the legs have to stretch so much. I love a nice 120-200 denier so hopefully Primark will continue to come through with the goods!

Thanks for all your tips. Will be ordering some from M&S which I see are presently 20% off online. Just remembered I have a pair on order from H&M but think they may be a 10-12, possibly too small. Will also pop into Mothercare and try a couple. It's so annoying that you can't return them (for obvious reasons) but have no way of knowing whether they fit until you try them on. Arggh!!!

M&S ones were good for me. Although, I bought large thinking I've put weight (pre-preg I would have been medium), but I should have stuck to medium as the large do need to be hoiked up every now and again! Good quality though, have washed and worn loads and still good condition.

green are you saying that XL are shorter than L? I'm a size 10/12 but 5'10 and always assumed they always got longer with size. That's really interesting to know.

I have been wearing Topshop's maternity tights and they're very comfortable. They have a panel at the front for your bump so they're not restricted around your tummy. £10 each from the website. Not seen them in a branch yet.

Ooh - my M&P tights are a nightmare for falling down, but conversely have found my new ones from Jojo Maman are actually really good

They are the "ultimate support" tights though So maybe have more stretch.

I also have Isabella Oliver ones from the last sale and they are brilliant

I tried loads when pregnant and found Next and Mothercare were the best.
