34 week placenta scan

I have a scan soon, to see whether my low placenta has moved up enough for a natural birth. If anyone has had one of these scans before, can you tell me whether we'll actually get to see the baby and if they take any measurements or anything, or whether it's just a quick look at the placenta and straight out again.

Also, is it transabdominal or vagina-cam?

Hi retro I had this done at 35 weeks last time I was pregnant. The placenta had luckily moved up - it transabdominal, they looked at the placenta, then measured the baby and gave me the estimated weight. I was quite stressed about it beforehand but all was good and it was great to get to see the baby again. This time my placenta was high enough at my 20-week scan so I'm not getting an extra scan which I'm a bit disappointed about... Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

I had it at 32 weeks. They measure the baby, check the placenta, she double checked the sex Grin and told me an estimate on his birth weight. Then I had a urine test too. I even got another photo. My placenta moved up so hopefully yours has. They normally do I think.

Oh and it was a belly scan not internal don't panic

Ah lovely, thanks both. I'm excited to see him again (and confirm he is a he!). I didn't want to get my hopes up if it was just going to be a placenta check. I hope the placenta has moved up, and the midwife said it probably will have, but ELCS isn't the end of the world so I'm not too worried either way.

I had one at 36weeks yesterday. She said if the placenta was still low it would be hard to see and they would do an internal scan. Happily mine had moved, so she took a couple of growth measurements and gave me a guided tour of my baby Smile We would have had a photo but the kid's camera-shy. Hope it goes well!

I have had placenta praevia twice, had the abdominal scans to check. With DC3 I had an extra one specifically to see if the placenta had grown into the scar (it hadn't).

Enjoy the extra scan. I hope it's good news.
