16 week MW appointment?

I'll be 16 weeks next week and thought that a 16 week MW appointment was the norm (first baby)?

Just wondering whether this is common and whether I should chase my MW for an appointment?

I had to make my 16 week appointment myself.

Usually your GP refers you to the midwifery team and then you liaise directly with them - I didn't get sent an appointment though, but made one - the first appt takes quite a long time - at least 45 minutes. And congratulations!

My midwife gave me my 16 week appointment when I saw her at my 6 week booking-in appointment.

I made my 16 wk appt when I booked in at my 8 wk appt. week 12 was my first scan. For your first, you should be having an appt with eith scans or mw every month until near the end when the frequency increases. I would call them.

First baby you see the mw at 8-10 weeks, then 16, I went to the hospital for 20 week scan and back to mw at 25 weeks, 28 weeks, 31 weeks. Then it's 34 weeks and possibly a bit more frequent after that. I'm shared care so some of my mw appts were with the consultant instead. I had to make them all myself tho

I had an app with my mw at 14 weeks then was told I dont have to go back till 25 weeks!!! I asked msnetters and was told it depends where you live as to how many apps you get. I was shocked though as its my first baby too!!

Thanks. I had my booking appt at 8 weeks but no mention of arranging subsequent appts. Will call the MW tomorrow, wish me luck in getting through!

Just phone the GP surgery and book it. You don't have to speak directly to MW to book appts.

I have been given one which is on Friday but I am struggling to see what it can be for! I'm much more interesting in getting to my 20 week scan!

Daffodill27 · 10/09/2013 19:15

The NHS website tells you at what weeks you should see the midwife.

louloubellamozzarella · 10/09/2013 19:32

Gah. I was told that I shouldn't need to contact the GP and that everything will be done through MWs... Confusing. Did check on NHS website guidance didn't specifically refer to a 16 week appt. Oh well! Sure I'll get to the bottom of it.
