Ouch! Piles

Hate it, my piles have piles and MW has just said there is nothing that can be done and I am now much more likely to keep getting them after pregnancy. Is painful sitting, standing, walking and lying down. Cream from Dr is doing nothing - any ideas to help me please? (pity the MW who will deliver me having to see them!)

Suppositories to help with the internal swelling (if you have then outside you will almost certainly have them inside) and cooled witch hazel on a pad to help with the external discomfort. Can't believe there are doctors who still only prescribe cream - it's useless on its own IMO! Have had them since 16 weeks this time (2nd preg) and found them much easier to manage with suppositories whenever I start to feel the discomfort.

A little tmi sorry but when the external pile has thrombosed (sp?) and is absolute agony will the suppositories actually...erm... go in? I get awful piles when pregnant and never been brave enough to try them!

mycatlikestwiglets · 13/09/2013 21:23

I reckon so - tmi but I could hardly move in my last pregnancy and was nearly signed off work early as mine were so bad. Didn't have any trouble using suppositories so if you're struggling I'd definitely give them a try.

Really? Applying cream (gently) is agony so the thought of putting something up there makes me feel quite ill. V sorry for the thread hijack!

I've just returned from a&e where my enormous thrombosis pile was "nicked" and 8 blood clots removed under a local (well 6 injections into it -ow!)

I am 30+3 with no 3, have had bad piles before but nothing like this pain hence why I was in a&e!

If its really agony maybe you should get checked out.

Finally went to the Dr after it got so bad I couldn't sleep, sit, stand or anything without pain. He gave me cream, (which I have found helpful), but also gave me laxative type drinks to soften my stool if necessary as I'm on iron tablets and have found and have found they make it worse.

Also I have been using moist toilet paper for ages which makes such a difference.

Earlier on I made a massive effort with drinking water and eating fibre too which kept them in check for a while. Although now I'm 40 weeks I'm pretty much eating anything in site which is partly why I think they got worse, along with the pressure from the baby obviously.

Feeling your pain. Mine have eased off a bit thank goodness as was in a lot of pain. Worry that I will forever have a grapy looking bum though(tmi he he) Have gone back to weetabix!
