Scan at 6+3 and terrified

Been ttc for years, had fertility treatment. Finally got our BFP and we are over the moon. Because I'd treatment we have been booked in for a scan on Friday when i will be 6+3, Im terrified that they are going to say there is nothing there or give us bad news. I feel like I'm not enjoying it because I'm constantly scared of something bad happening.

Has anyone had a scan this early and if so what should I expect to see? Does anyone know why they do these early scans after fertility treatment?

At 9 weeks ds looked like a bean. I don't know what can be seen at 6 weeks.

I remember pregnancy being so scary, everything that other people liked such as scans and listening to heart beats etc I found really anxiety inducing.

I hope all is wellThanks

Hi!
I think at 6-7 weeks you might see a heartbeat, assuming dates are correct, but plenty of stories out there of heartbeats not being seen until later.

This might be helpful ..www.miscarriageassociation.org.uk/information/ultrasound-scans/

Good luck! It is such a nerve wracking time.

I think it's to check any embryo is in the right place and viable ie not ectopic, and the dating scan is later on.

Christelle2207 · 10/09/2013 12:35

Dont necessarily expect to see a heartbeat but you may do. I saw one at 7+4. I know it's scary, best of luck.
If no hb I would push for another in a couple of weeks. I read somewhere that if all looks well with a heartbeat at 8 weeks, chances of mc are overall between 1 and 2%

TallulahBetty · 10/09/2013 12:50

I saw a hb at 6+2, although we were told we were lucky to do so that early. Good luck OP Thanks

Hi happily congratulations. They do the scans after fertility treatment as they can then report a 'clinical pregnancy' to the hfea. It is so scary, isn't it? Why not join us on the ivf worriers thread, or the new ivfers thread, we all understand how it is after ttc for ages, and are there to hold each others hands.

You will probably see a hb at 6+3, but if you don't then don't panic.

Congratulations again

keepitgoing · 10/09/2013 12:59

Ps, not sure if you had ivf or not, it doesn't matter on those threads, we have long term ttcers etc.

TruJay · 10/09/2013 12:59

Massive congratulations to u both!

With my son, I ended up having a very early scan, not for any particular season, I think my details were just processed really quickly. Anyway at the scan we found out I was 6+3 with him so exactly the same as u will be, he looked just like a tiny kidney bean, we could see his heartbeat but from having read threads on here I realise that we were very lucky to see it so early on.

As we saw our son so early, waiting until after 12 weeks for our dating scans with our subsequent pregnancies seemed to take a lifetime!

Best of luck at your scan x

We saw a heartbeat at 6 + 4. It was only 8mm! Good luck

keepitgoing · 13/09/2013 10:49

Good luck today happily! Let us know how it goes.

Happilymarried155 · 13/09/2013 10:54

It didn't go well :( there was a gestational sac but no yolk sac-she said I could either be a week earlier than they thought or that I will miscarry shortly and told me to come back in two weeks.
I had fertility treatment so I don't see how my dates can be wrong but she said something about late implantation so maybe that makes a difference. You should be able to see the yolk sac from 5+5-6 weeks so I'm just hoping that I'm a few days out. :(

I got a surprise bfp after 4 years TTC. I had no idea how far on I was, so ended up having a v early scan. My first was dated at about 4+6 by sac size, but called a pregnancy of unknown location/viability. A second scan 2 weeks later had me at 6+3 with a heart beat.

My 12 week dating scan (which I think is the most accurate scan means of dating) has pushed my forward by 2 weeks. I take this to mean I was about 6 weeks at the first scan, with little to see.

It's a bit different, but this isn't necessarily the worst news. I really hope it works out for you. And ditto what was said up thread. I'm a BESH (long term TTC group), but the IVFers also seem lovely. Have a look at their threads if you can face it - you'll find a lot of support.

lottieandmia · 13/09/2013 11:05

In all my pregnancies so heartbeat could be seen until 10 weeks. And iirc I had a scan at 7 weeks where no yolk sac could be found. So my advice would be don't worry yet. I think early scans can cause unnecessary worry.

keepitgoing · 13/09/2013 11:13

Oh happily I'm sorry they couldn't see it, but I agree with sinky that scans are notoriously inaccurate at this time. If you had fertility treatment its unlikely your dates are wrong, but more that things can grow at slightly different rates and Its all so small at this stage.

Having had ivf, so certain of dates, I was 3 days behind I think at 7+3, then a week ahead at 13 weeks.

I'm so sorry you have to wait 2 weeks. Have you had any bloods done? I would probably push for a scan in a week.

poppyXsmile · 13/09/2013 11:14

Hello Happilymarried

Congratulations on your bfp!

I can relate to what you are saying. I had a miscarriage last year and an ectopic this year (no other children). I am now 10 weeks pregnant. I had a scan at 5 and a half weeks and a scan at 6 and a half weeks. We saw the heartbeat at the second scan.

I had internal scans since I was so early on. Like other posters have said, you don't always see the heartbeat so early on, so don't worry too much if you don't see it.

Best wishes with everything.

xxxx

Happilymarried155 · 13/09/2013 11:15

That's what I'm clinging on too, it's so early and I've read of so many people in a similar situation with a positive outcome, I've spent all morning crying but I think I need to be more positive. Thank you for your replies :)

Congrats on you bfp Smile I saw yolk sac at 5+0 and heartbeat at 6+1 but my sister didnt see a thing until 8 weeks and has a gorgeous baby boy now! All pregnancies are different, I'm sure you'll see loads at the next scan.
