Hello mumsnetters,

After months of TTC, DW is pregnant and I now realise that I'm not sure what to do/expect from here on in. Other than doing a little dance and maybe shouting from the rooftops I mean. Help?

Congratulations!!! Do the little dance first and then maybe think about buying a book. My DP had a book called The Expectant Dad's Survival Guide and he said it was brilliant. And he hasn't dropped our baby yet Wink

You need to be supportive and remember the wife you have now will reappear after all the hormone charged fun of the next year. Read lots, forget most of it, panic when it all kicks off, forget the bits you've remembered and then hold your baby and realise that's the only thing that matters. Congrats and enjoy!

So I need to clue up on stuff and be supportive, I think I can handle that. Thanks for your help Smile

Congrats OP Smile

Even by asking you are halfway there I think!

urtwistingmymelonman · 08/09/2013 08:49

the best bit of advice I can give you is to say 'yes darling your right' a lot!

PinkApple86 · 08/09/2013 13:08

Don't wait for her to ask you to wash up/ bring her a tea/ take bin bags out/ etc. She might try to carry on as before (like me) but doing little things off your own back will really help her out. Oh and lots of cuddles. congrats Smile

Ha she will love the bit about bringing her a cup of tea :). I'm struggling to come up with baby names, how did you guys go about deciding on a name? Do you know of any good websites?

BunInMyOven93 · 10/09/2013 15:19

the baby names section on here has lots :).
Im 28weeks now and all i can suggest is to ignore the hormones! if she wants to be left alone, leave her alone. If she has a rant, just step back for a while and approach with caution after she has.calmed down! Also agree with the 'dont.wait to be asked' comment. Every pregnancy is different, try to take each day as it comes! and congrats xx

Wow you sound like a keeper! If you did your fair share of night shifts and early mornings she'll be happy with you! That's what I would ask of my oh but it's never going to happen, he just doesn't wake up to the sound of a crying baby! He does keep the house compulsively tidy though so he's got his fair share of qualities. Good luck, the fact you're seeking advice puts you ahead of most, you'll be great. It does come naturally with your own children! x

Re names
With DS1, 22months old, we both agreed on Ewan straight away with no other options.
with DS2 (due next January) it was much harder. We made a longlist of names, getting rid of the ones either of us hated and making a shortlist of the ones we both liked. Luckily we both loved Callum so looks like that will be his name.

Ill ask DP for his advice on baby tips. Hes right here.... stay tuned.

He says dont take anything she says too personally
Get her whatever she wants.
Turn the channel whenever there are adverts for kids charities/puppy endorsed loo roll/the cesar advert with the dog and old man

Realise that the worst she will feel may well be when she looks least pregnant. I have found first trimester really tough in both my pregnancies and have barely functioned.
