Brazilian Blow Dry

Hi. I was wondering if anyone has had a Brazilian blow dry during pregnancy. I've seen lots of different opinions on whether its safe or not so just don't know. It would seem like the perfect time to get one, but clearly don't want to do anything which could harm the baby. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

I would have thought it would be okay. If pregnant women can dye their hair, then a BBD can't be any worse..they use natural chemicals (keratin?) don't they? Maybe call the salon for their opinion?

Ask your hairdresser what chemicals they use in the treatment - some BBD treatments use formaldehyde so at the very least you should make sure that the salon is very well-ventilated.

I did - no problem.

I was reliably told it's safe - did it during last pregnancy, but it didn't work nearly as well as usual. Hair goes funny when you're pregnant, the texture of mine was totally different. Wish I hadn't wasted the £ and done it once DS had arrived!

I had one booked on the day I did my pg test, and when that came back positive I cancelled the appt as I wasn't sure about it. My hairdresser has since confirmed that I was right not to have it (well for the brand they use anyway, not sure what it is). So my hair is crazy now and I can't wait to get it done again!

Thanks for all the comments. I asked about formaldehyde and they said its banned in the uk now so should be pretty safe. The salon just say ask your doctor or midwife so I'll check with them next week. Think I'll go for it though, my hair is so crazy, and I do still get it coloured while pregnant so I suppose it's no worse than that.
