Induction looming, scared witless

Gah! So just wrote this thread and its vanished!

I'm 41+1 and have a final sweep booked Friday then induction Wednesday. I'm crossing everything except my legs!! that the sweep may set me off but I'm not overly optimistic.

I've had a sweep at 40+2 and midwife said cervix was soft and stretchy but not had a single twinge!

I know I don't have to be induced Wednesday but going by LMP I would be 41+5 today so have that extra four days buzzing in my thoughts.

My hospital don't do gel so it will be a pessary, is one dose likely to work? Also I'm sure I heard DP isn't allowed to stay til things get going, the thought of being alone petrifies me! Do you think if they know how scared I am he will be able to stay? :(

Anyone with any positive induction stories, I would love to hear the right now! My cousin was induced at 36 weeks due to problems and had a horrific experience but is it different to being induced when very overdue rather than prem?

Try not to worry, induction is not always bad. I've been induced twice (38 and 42 weeks) and both were fine, quick, no pain relief and no interventions.

I have read on here a few times now that partners are not able to stay for the induction process? My last one, 3 years ago, my partner stayed at the hospital with me from pessary in to baby out - pessary took a few hours to get going, labour was 3 hours. Not once did they mention DP had to bugger off at any point?

All the best - hopefully everything will be straightforward for you.

Thanks ezza will defiantly fetch it up with midwife on Saturday, I can't imagine why it should be a problem. He doesn't drive and hospital is a good 40 mins away then having to wait for a lift off my sis.

I was induced. 9 hour labour, I did have an epidural, but no other interventions. It was fine, I healed well. Once they started it I was on the ward and DH was with me, he came up to the labour ward with me too, and stayed the whole time until visiting ended.

I was induced, pessary and then drip when a day of pessaries and walking around did nothing. Still took another 18 hours. Dp and my sis were with me the whole time, definitely never even suggested that they leave. (They wanted to though they were starving and sharing one plastic chair between them!). Had an epidural as was on the drip already. Did end up with forceps but honestly was fine. Not painful at all.
They broke my waters early on though and that hurt a lot - if I did it again I would want some pain relief for that bit. And to take more food/crosswords/ pillows for dp and sis! But honestly do not worry, they want you happy and relaxed really otherwise it all just slows down anyway.

Oh yes, I completely forgot I went on the drip!

Take boiled sweets, to keep your energy levels up.

I had an induction at 38+2 just pessary and ARM. It was a lovely experience, no pain relief. I hope your sweep works for your peace of mind

enjolraslove · 05/09/2013 17:14

Yes Defjnitely. Lots of sweets. They didn't want me to eat but I was starving. Dp would slip me a cola bottle when no one was looking. (Bad patient)

Went in for monitoring last night didnt end up getting home til 3:30! I was having rhythmic tightenings/little contractions i didnt know about. But his heat rate was decelerating slightly at the peak of them but she said it wasn't enough to worry. She gave me another really good sweep and said not to hesitate to call if movements reduced again or there's more than a teaspoon of blood.
Woke up at half 8 checked pad quite a bit of blood even more when I wiped. going to have breakfast and call them up.

May set me off if its continual thing so could happen earlier than I thought
