teabags · 19/06/2006 20:35

no with the 1st

5 weeks preg with my 2nd and tempted to find out, but DH & I really loved the surprise and the wait was worth it.I just know that by the end of my pregnancy the suspense was killing me!

I wasn't offered the chance to know the sex of my first one but needed more scans with numbers 2,3, and 4 so did find out the sex before they were born.

I am that sort of person - I just can't bear to wait!

kate100 · 19/06/2006 20:39

Didn't first time and did the second, as I felt I would have less chance to shop for clothes after the birth if I'd had a girl so would need to do it in advance. As it was I had another boy and sat and put mmy feet up Grin

beansprout · 19/06/2006 20:40

I don't think I would. Dh really didn't want to and I can't see that changing and there is nothing quite like the classic "it's a boy/girl" moment. For me (and just for me) it would be like knowing what my christmas present is before I open it! Although I am always happy to know what other people are having!

Ds i found out because I knew that my grandfather wouldn't live to see him and as Grandfather and ds are the only men in my family at all and one was born 1918 and one 2001 I realy wanted one to know about the other.

With dd I wanted us to both have a surprise but then the consultant that did the amnio gave the game away to dp during the scans and amnio itself. Didn't say anything direct just said what did we want and I said i thought we were having another ds and she said wouldn't one of each be nice though? Said in a way that convinced dp it was a girl. But he knew how much I wanted the surprise even though I was really desperate to know so never told me he knew until the day after the birth.

That was a bit longer than i intended, sorry. Blush Hope it makes some sense.

I'd never want to know again though it's way more fun having the surprise i think.

Marne · 19/06/2006 20:41

I found out with both of mine but i would'nt if i had another.

Nemo1977 · 19/06/2006 20:43

WE knew ds was going to be a boy but didnt know with dd. This time we dont know whether to find out or not and probably wont know until scan day. Both had plus side and negatives.

Slink · 19/06/2006 20:44

I am considering this too????????? i am 14weeks didn't want to know with the first but feel if i did with the second it would mean it was not that important..know what i mean, trying after 4 yrs so may just hang out till the arrival.. dilemia???????? dd5 wants to know though

fruitful · 19/06/2006 20:52

I didn't with dd cos I quite liked not knowing. Second pg, I wasn't going to, and then I looked at all the baby clothes in my cellar and I thought "if its a boy I won't have to wash half of those" so we found out... Am I really trivial or just lazy?

pol26 · 19/06/2006 21:28

With DD we didn't want to know what she was... This time round we did want to know, purely because we are thinking of moving and whether to try for two beds or three and if it was a boy I was going to get rid of all DD's clothes on ebay and we would need blue bits!

As it is we are having a blue one, so all the pink things have been sold on ebay and i've been buying blue things. We haven't told everyone tho so it will still be a surprise to our friends and family.

And obviously the scannig woman may have got it wrong Wink

misdee · 19/06/2006 21:30

didnt find out with dd1+2, but did with dd3. mainly as i needed to know what to keep clothes wise as had loads with laready having had 2 girls. still went mad i nteh sales tho lol.

SaintGeorge · 19/06/2006 21:59

Didn't ask with DS1.

Didn't intend to find out with DS2 but he flashed us on the scan and made it a bit obvious Grin

sanchpanch · 19/06/2006 22:01

i didnt want to know with my 1st but i found out with my 2nd, because i just wanted to plan better?
and i hate waiting

mosschops30 · 19/06/2006 22:04

i wasnt bothered with my 1st because i would be happy either way, but on 2nd we wanted a boy so wanted to find out.
probably wouldnt bother with 3rd because again doesnt matter cos we have one of each anyway

snorkle · 19/06/2006 22:53

Hospital policy was not to tell, so all were a surprise. Wanted to know with the last as mum was dying and I'd have liked to have told her. I think if I'd have explained to doctor before the scan reasons etc they might have told, but in the room it was too late, so I didn't get to know.

hana · 19/06/2006 22:56

didn't find out for the first 2 - didn't want to at all
have found out for number 3 and was what I thought - am pleased that I know ( but haven't told anyone!) and am v pleased with who we're going to meet!

snuffy143 · 19/06/2006 23:16

Yes is the answer to this question. DD (now 7) was a total surprise. DS (4) was revealed at 35 weeks. Was really glad to know he was a boy as DD was all set to welcome him by name and I am sure that eased the disturbance of his arrival. No regrets at all.
