I have been told my 12weeks scan might not be at 12 weeks as the hospital are so very busy. This means I might be waiting 5weeks for my scan. I am not the most patient person in the world - and I am a complete worry wart!!
I have decided that I will go ever so slightly mad if I don't know this pregnancy is going ok for another 5weeks so I have booked in for a private ultrasound instead.
It's called a Fetal viability scan for those btwn 6-10weeks. I am just 8weeks so I now have my fingers crossed it will be good news tomorrow morning.
Has anyone else had a scan before 12 weeks because you just couldn't wait?

We had fertility treatment so have a scan next week at 7 weeks, in so pleased, I don't think I would have been able to wait until 12 weeks either!

MrsFlorrick · 03/09/2013 12:49

Yes. Both times. First time because we couldn't wait. It's was excellent and emotional. Nine weeks.

Second time ante natal care and birth was private. So scans right from first appointment. First appointment was 5 weeks plus 5 days and we saw a heartbeat. Had a second scan at 9 weeks and then another at 12.

Enjoy it!! Have fun seeing your baby Grin

Yes! I had one at 5 weeks and could only see the sac so the chap said to come back 2 weeks later for another. The 2nd one we heard a heartbeat. Was absolutely fascinating! Smile

CrispyFB · 03/09/2013 16:36

Every Single Time. Often a few times. I relax a bit when I can use the doppler though.

No patience, me. Or perhaps it is just that I have around a 50% success rate getting out the first trimester so if it's bad news I'd rather find out sooner, than deal with all those horrible symptoms for nothing!!

Excited2meetmyprincess · 03/09/2013 17:25

I had early scans due to bleeding but think I would have gone private if not as I would have hated waiting xx

Fairydogmother · 03/09/2013 17:28

I had a private early scan at 7 weeks and heard the heartbeat. Best money I ever spent

HotCrossPun · 03/09/2013 17:29

I paid for an early scan at 8 weeks.

I found out I was pregnant at 3 weeks, there is no way I could have waited till 12 to find out everything was okay!

You can't see much. Just a blob and a heartbeat. It's definitely worth it though!

Writerwannabe83 · 03/09/2013 18:18

I had one at 7wks+5 because I was so impatient. It was a little blob and a heartbeat but was lovely to see Smile

Re NHS scan : the initial screening test they do for Downs Syndrome HAS to be done before you are 13wks+6 days so make sure you are seen before that date!!

Newbs · 04/09/2013 10:31

I had a reassurance scan at 9 weeks (£95 - worth every penny!), another scan at 11 weeks (due to bleeding) and then just had one at 13 weeks too. Has helped to calm me down a bit!

Good luck with yours.

crazycranberry · 04/09/2013 16:28

YAY! had my scan this morning! There was a tiny little peanut on the screen but the sonographer could see the heartbeat (and so could I) without any problems. Hoorah! Such a relief to know that things are going ok. Smile
I am glad I paid for an early one cos I rec'd the appt letter in post today for my NHS 12week scan and that will be 10th Oct! Seems like sooooooo far away!

I paid for a 3D scan at 16 weeks because I couldn't wait any longer to find out if it was blue or pink Grin

It was brilliant! I'd defo have another one if I ever had another baby Smile

crazycranberry · 04/09/2013 16:35

Mamato3boys oooh that sounds like a great idea. The NHS scan to determine the sex is not until 20weeks isn't it?
When I was pregnant with dc1 I was convinced it was a boy and I was correct even though I only knew that once I had given birth. I wanted it to be a suprise.
With my current pregnancy, my new partner is quite keen to know what it is and actually I think it will be nice to know this time too. Was it more expensive for the 3D scan at 16weeks that the other earlier scans?

Just remember that if you want a nuchal translucency scan it has to be don during a pretty narrow time window- so make sure you don't miss the the time.

MamaTo3Boys · 04/09/2013 17:07

Yes NHS one is at 20 weeks but I just couldn't wait. I'm very impatient haha

It was £60 and that was for the scan, 4 scan photos and a DVD. It was truly amazing! I could see his little features on his face and each little finger and toe.
