37+3 and painful carpal tunnel

This started about a week ago - have got bad fluid retention and I started waking up with painful hands and wrists. The past few days its been getting worse - I get woken up in the night with tingling all down my arms and my hands are agony for the first few hours of the day - I can't grip anything (brushing my teeth is a mission) and my fingers feel stiff and sore.

It gets a bit better after I have been up for a while but the pain never really goes away during the day. Is there anything I can do?? I drink lots of water, don't eat salt and am pretty active (walking / swimming / gym ball etc) but am fairly limited in what I can do as I also have really painful PGP and round ligament pain (at this point almost everything hurts!!)

Anyone else suffering??

I had this - perhaps not as painful as yours sounds but pretty miserable, in both hands and feet. The only thing that worked (a bit) was gentle swimming and walking with my hands held up above my shoulders. And paracetamol.

It disappeared the instant DS was born.

Actually, rereading your post, maybe it's not carpal tunnel. Have you seen your mw? Sudden or severe fluid retention is one of those things you should get checked out, I think.

I have this too. I can't open things with my hands as they are so sore and my feet are super painful whn walking.

My doc prescribed magnesium which hasn't really helped.

My GDD test was negative but my doc has just done another random blood test to double check as she says my face is a bit too swollen ( on the plus side it is not just fat as I had thought!)

Might be worth getting checked.

I did see mw last Wednesday after the swelling had started and all was fine with BP / urine then so doesn't seem to be anything sinister - just bloody painful and annoying! I really want to enjoy my last few weeks of pregnancy but its difficult when everything hurts :/

Assuming it is carpal tunnel, it's a complete pain (no pun intended), but I don't think there is really anything you can do. I had it with DS1 and appallingly badly with DS2. Wrist splints at night helped, but honestly, as soon as I gave birth it went! Interestingly I didn't get it at all with DS3 (easiest pregnancy, hardest baby Grin). I'm now 21 weeks with DC4 and can feel the tingling and stiffness at night, so don't think it'll be long. Hopefully it's a sign that this one's going to be a nice easy baby Wink

What did you use for wrist splints sleepthief?
