Hello - I have a 14 month old son and I am 9 weeks pregnant with my second. I went down to a size 8 and now all of a sudden my tummy has popped out and it really firm and I look about 4 months pregnant. Is this normal? This has happened really quickly in the last 2 weeks. I remember on my first pregnancy that I did not show until alot later. Do you think this means it will be a girl this time?

Any advice appreciated! Thank you.:)

congrats on your pg...but well...if boy or girl...the bump is not gonna terll ya!
my mum, 2 girls...first time pg, sick as a dog, petite all through pg...etc...and with me...where are the bacon butties...loved food and put on the weight....both girls!
With my 3...have not have as distictive diffrences....but with ys I was very irrational, etc...and also grew rather big, bump wise...by 26 weeks people thpugyt I was around my edd...I have all boys! With ,s. I had the loveliest bump, and put on the least and looked the best soon after birth!

16 1/2 weeks preggers with #2. At 5 weeks, my trousers started feeling tight, tested at 6 weeks because tired and pukey. At 7 weeks, I had a bump.

Had/having a lot of digestive bloating with both pregnancies (strangely regular though), but I think for me it may be mental.

Now that I am pregnant again, I am no longer constantly driven to sucking in my gut! It is wonderful to let it all hang out!

Man alive, this thread has come as a relief to me! I'm expecting number three but it is very early days (I'm only about four and a half weeks). Already I am sure I can feel a firm, enlarged bump emerging! With my first child, a girl, I just kind of grew sideways and my pregnancy didn't really show until I was about seven months. Prior to that, I just looked really wide and fat. With my second child, a boy, I was showing and having to wear maternity trousers well before the 12 week mark. The superstitious old wife in me likes to contribute this to the fact that I had a girl and then a boy but I know deep down it must be because my abdominal muscles are all knacked (not that they were ever great to begin with).

Still, trying to look on the bright side - at least I'll look pregnant now and not like a wide load bearing Bella Emberg impersonator and I'll get some mileage (and therefore value for money) out of my maternity wear. I'm looking forward to buying maternity wear, bizarrely - there is a gap of 10 years between this one and my DS and, I can assure you, maternity wear 10 years ago was still all about Princess Di sailor collars and enormous bows about the neck!

Also really glad I came accross this as just about to post the same question. pregnant with number 2 and showing at 6-7 weeks! Makes it really hard to keep it a secret so I have started to tell a few people and some even asked me outright!!! My dd is only 14 months so I dont think I really went back to normal from 1st time around. consolation this time around is no morning sickness as yet and not as ridiculously tired as last time! Cross fingers it lasts.
Congratulations to everyone.

It'll be a bit of your body knowing what's happening, so relaqxing the stomach muscles faster, as others have said, but at such an early stage it's far more likely to be linked to hormonal disruption of your bowels, creating indigestion, wind and constipation which causes bloating.
It happened to me with my last and current pg.

Sorry but it's not usually a baby bump until you hit the second trimester, it's more likely to be poo.

Creena · 22/09/2006 19:37

LOL at sorkycake - but I did a great big massive poo yesterday and it made no difference!!!

I know what you mean, though - I am disgracefully windy with this one. I can barely move without something popping out of one end or the other!

Lolabelle · 22/09/2006 20:51

This is the best news yet - thought at 6 weeks pregnant i had just ben overeating a it but my belly is sooo bloated and i can't hold it in however much i try!! Its not noticeable if you didn't know me but i also am an 8 and this is my second and the first time round it took me ages to show (although when it did arrive it was tres large!).

My DH just thinks I've been eating too many crips and haribo which although guilty as charged i cannot hold responsible for this belly of mine surely??

Quite looking forward to maternity clothes, don't have to try and hold it in anymore....

sorkycake · 22/09/2006 21:57

I absolutely refuse to believe that crisps and haribo could possibly make you fat whilst pg, and in my house sherbet has turned into one of the major food groups

Lolabelle · 23/09/2006 13:07

I agree. A nutritious essential part of anyones diet pregnant or not. Crisps are potatoes which are vegetables after all..

Twinkie1 · 23/09/2006 13:21

Got a huge bump with DS (2nd child) think it just cause muscles are laxer (sp??) than with first one.

incy · 25/09/2006 09:41

With DS1 my friend and I were both pregnant at the same time. She was on her second and showed almost immediately whilst I didn't tell anybody until 5 months and even then people were shocked. For what it is worth when I did show I caught up really quickly and by the end 3 months we were an identical size. Have also heard showing earlier with no 2 is because the abdominal muscles are not as strong second time around. Congratuations by the way

canyoukeepasecret · 25/09/2006 12:59

Sunglasses- I think you and I have exactly the same age gap between our babies- are you due in May? Mine is 14 months now and I am expecting 11 May and already showing. starting to get tricky to explain away...

Gemy · 28/07/2007 14:22

I am 18 weeks and have big firm bump. Started getting instantly bigger from the finding out time onwards. Of course, I'm sure that has nothing to do with my introducing "second breakfast" into my daily meals nor "afternoon chocolate time"!

Just go with it! I have bought some lovely maternity clothes from Seraphine and Isabella Oliver and feel really gorgeous

donna5577 · 18/09/2007 18:27

hi, its a huge relief to hear that its normal to look bigger, quicker the 2nd time around. i'm 9 weeks pregnant and i've already started showing. its getting hard to hide it as i dont want to tell too many people just yet it being quite early still. congrats to all x

Babyberry · 19/06/2008 09:21

I'm so glad I came across this site. I'm almost 7 weeks pregnant with number 2 and all of a sudden I have a noticable bump! I thought I was going mad!

I remember moaning for ages 1st time round that I couldn't wait to have a proper bump! I was huge by the time my little boy was born so who knows how big I'll be this time??!!

Congratulations to all.
xx

Hi ladies!
Just wanted to say that I am so relieved to have found the info on this site!
I am currently 6 weeks pregnant with my 3rd child, there was a 4 and a half year gap between my first two so didn't really notice much of a difference in 'showing time' but blimey, not this time!!
I feel massive! We have had to do the 'telling parents' thing as i felt it was so obvious! None of my clothes fit me and i thought that i couldn't possible get the maternity clothes out of the loft yet as it must just be because i have eaten too much!!...
Well the hubbie is up those steps first thing tomorrow and i'll be wearing some comfy clothes!! Phew!
Just joined the site so thanks for the info!

It is great to know that I am not the only one. I have been so embarrased.

I am only six weeks pregnant but already my jeans are tight and people have been coming up to me and asking if I am pregnant; as the top part of my tummy under my breasts has bulged out too.

I keep getting embarrased to tell them I am not very far. I keep wondering whether I should ask for a dating scan to check that my last period was not a false one.

I am a UK size 18 and this will be my 4th child, so it could all be fat & bloating?

PS: Before I fell pregnant I was on a healthy eating diet and had lost 8lbs in 6 weeks. I have not increased my food intake and still eat the same healthy food.

evansnanny · 13/04/2016 12:16
