Anterior low lying placenta: did yours move?

Hello everyone, I'm 21 weeks pregnant and have an anterior low lying placenta. I'm not really worried about it but would like to hear from anyone who has had it and has gone on to give birth - did it shift, did it stay put?

I would prefer not to have a CS and understand that most placentas do move up but if it doesn't then I'm also happy to go along with medical advice. I guess I would just like to hear from others who have some experience and stories to share.

Thanking you in advance.

Hi Lotty, had this with dc1 and it moved by 34 weeks. I have the same with dc2 and am 25 weeks so we'll see if this one moves too. Good luck!

Mine was very low and partially covering the cervix. It was well out of the way by 36 weeks Smile

LottyLikesWindows · 30/08/2013 15:56

That's really reassuring - thanks so much everyone. Ostrich, hope your shifts too!

Mine was considered marginal at 30 wells and by 34 eeks had moved up and is no longer considered a problem.

FreckleyGirlAbroad · 30/08/2013 17:55

*weeks

Boosiehs · 30/08/2013 17:56

Yep, mine moved up and out of the way by 33 week scan.

threepiecesuite · 30/08/2013 17:58

Yes mine had moved up and out the way by 33 week scan too.

LottyLikesWindows · 30/08/2013 19:43

Ah, brilliant, thanks everyone. In the last few weeks I haven't felt too many kicks as the anterior placenta is cushioning these. Not so tonight. Am being kicked to high heavens (well I say kicked - lots and lots of movement) and it feels wonderful!

blondebaby111 · 30/08/2013 21:40

Hi lotty, I got toldd this week at my 20 week scan I had the same. It worried the life out of me but fingers crossed both of ours has moved up by the time we give birth. Have u got to have another scan? I'm being rescanned at 36 weeks xx

AndIFeedEmGunpowder · 30/08/2013 21:42

Mine moved by 32 weeks too Smile

Nnnnnnn · 30/08/2013 21:53

Yes, seen at 20 week scan, so offered a 34 week scan by which time it had moved.

AndIFeedEmGunpowder · 30/08/2013 22:10

Wanted to add, apparently they almost always migrate up. Dr told me to imagine putting a felt tip pen dot on the neck of a balloon then blowing it up. The dot will usually end up on the big fat bit of the balloon rather than the bit you tie. Similarly your placenta usually moves upwards as your uterus moves outwards.

Ruralninja · 30/08/2013 22:12

mine had moved by 28 weeks

LottyLikesWindows · 30/08/2013 23:59

AndIfeedthem that's a really helpful analogy and one that makes sense. My obstetrician said that as I grow bigger the placenta should move up and out of baby's exit!

blondebaby I've got another scan booked for 34 weeks too, so keeping fingers crossed it will offer good news.

It's great to read that so many of you faced the same situation and that the outcome was positive. Keeping fingers crossed for all of us hoping for a placenta shift.
