Braxton Hicks at 16+ weeks?!?!

Had the most uncomfortable pains this morning, felt like I was having real bad period pains and when I felt my tummy there was some tightening. My instant thought was BH but thought it was way too early for that. Anyway, have googled it and it seems that it is possible to have them this early on.

Has anyone else had these, this early on?!

Yes, every time.

They shouldn't be painful, though. Uncomfortable and tight and maybe even breathtaking but not actually painful.

The aches might coincide with lower back pain if you are usually using your stomach/core muscles to support your back - they are unavailable during BH Grin

Worth mentioning to midwife if you are seeing her soon - I think most women have a 16w mw appt. Otherwise if it's actually painful you might need to be seen in clinic.

Ok, if I get them again I will give MW a call - I only saw her on Tuesday for 16 week check. Once I changed position they eased off and I haven't had them since. I did have the discomfort in my back as well so that sounds about right.

Thanks! :-)

Yes I've had them since 16 weeks or so, am now 34 and still having them. Get them checked as mine were first triggered by a symptomless UTI...

I had symptoms of a uti last week, went to walk in centre and there was nothing, just said my uterus was leaning on my bladder which made sense as some symptoms were relieved when I laid down. Everything seems fine now. Like I say, if it happens again I'll ring the maternity helpline. It's no good calling midwife as she's on hol and I haven't seen the same one twice anyway!

Yes get them checked out and ask for your urine to be tested. I had horrible pains on tues & weds, like really bad period pain and tightenings in my back and front. I am 16 weeks too. MW told me to go straight to hospital and it was a UTI (had no symptoms up until them apart from frequency, which is pretty normal I thought.) Feel much better now I've started on the antibiotics. Hopefully it is just Braxton Hicks for you but better to be sure & get checked over.

I've had the same thing from about 16 weeks. Kept me awake the other night because it was so constant. I was doing exercise classes and this made it worse so I've stopped that now.
I've already got two children and this time it seems a more uncomfortable sensation than before.

Yeah in 1st pregnancy I had a bh at 12 weeks but didn't know what it was until I started to get them regularly later on. Had them since about 16 weeks this time. It's fine to have them and they can feel uncomfortable but if they are causing pain best to just get checked over I think. x
