Yes! Happy Birthday to me indeed! Fanks for all the Cake I would say 'nom-nom' and 'it was awesome!' but I would have to stab myself for being an irritating twat. I digress..

Come here, ladies who have survived IVF and are now battling the first trimester nerves and scans. We did it...we did it!! Grin

Oh Happy I'm sorry to hear that. My clinic deliberately don't scan until 8 weeks to avoid things like that. Whilst it was torture waiting longer, it avoided confusion in the long run. Remind me, was this IUI?

Happilymarried155 · 12/09/2013 10:56

Yes it was iui. That's what I'm hoping that it was just too early and everything will have caught up within the next two weeks!

NoMaybeAboutIt · 12/09/2013 11:18

It's a bit mean they're making you wait a whole two weeks till they scan you again!! All the waiting around it by far the worst part isn't it?x

Happilymarried155 · 12/09/2013 11:38

Yes definitely, it's going to be a long two weeks! They way I see it if I hadn't had treatment then is be happily plodding along now, not knowing so I figure I'm going to keep doing that and hope for the best. This could happen to other people but they don't know as they don't get an early scan and I've been reading up and found lots of stories where people go back two weeks later and all is ok, so I'm holding out for that I think!!

NoMaybeAboutIt · 12/09/2013 12:08

I like your thinking! I also know people this has happened to (in 'natural' pregnancy) so definitely kep plodding on Smile

Happilymarried155 · 12/09/2013 12:32

Exactly, I only had treatment 5 weeks ago tommorow so if implantation took a few days my dates could be out so until something happens, il live in my happy bubble I think!

birdandbee · 12/09/2013 13:00

Happilymarried I also know that the sperms that makes girl babies can survive up to a week before meeting the egg (boy sperms are faster but don't live as long. it's why if you have IVF you have more chance of having a boy).

So may be if you ovulated and sperm met egg later than you thought this could also be factor in you perhaps not being as far along as you think you are....??

Do hope all is week for you!!!Smile

Prambo · 12/09/2013 16:35

Bird, IUI is not like normal conception where there may have been sperm 'waiting' for days before ovulation. With IUI the woman has a trigger shot of HcG which then guarantees ov will take place withing 36 hours. They then place the man's sperm directly at the base of the fallopian tubes so that timing is near-perfect.

Happily, I hate to be the voice of doom but I really think you should prepare yourself for the worst. Two weeks is a long time to keep telling yourself that dates may be wrong (this is very unlikely in the case of IUI where ovulation and sperm-meeting-egg is timed pretty much perfectly). I would hate for you to start bleeding soon and not been mentally prepared. I hope this is the very best outcome for you. We are here when you need to talk x

Prambo · 12/09/2013 16:38

..Happily, if you had IUI five weeks ago that should make you seven weeks pregnant in which case a sac should be seen. I really hope for the best for you though. I had a mmc last year so I know what it feels like to be told the sac is just not there (actually, I had a fully-developed sac but no baby). This was at my eleven week scan Sad

birdandbee · 12/09/2013 17:19

Oooh ??.....

Happilymarried could you ask your GP to do a blood test to check HCG levels?

Other ladies- am I correct in thinking that this would show if her embryo had stopped developing?

NoMaybeAboutIt · 12/09/2013 17:58

Bird you would ideally have 2 blood tests, 48 hours apart to see if levels were rising as they should. Happily I would be inclined to go and demand this rather than waiting two weeks.

I had forgotten that IUI uses a trigger too, so the dates should be pretty spot on. There will always be some variation, but to dramatic amounts.

Happilymarried155 · 12/09/2013 19:05

Thanks for all the advice ladies, the nurse said that a yolk sac is not seen until 5+5 and as I am only 6+2 it only takes being a few days out for this to happen, therefore it could have just implanted later. Sounds like she was clutching at straws! :(

I'm fully prepared for what might happen, I just don't really think that it will do me any good at all to be depressed about it until I actually need too! Might see the doctor about my HCG levels though, I wonder how long it takes to get the results back.

NoMaybeAboutIt · 12/09/2013 19:08

They should come back same day Happily, but you will need to get a form for two tests. Keeping everything crossed for you still x

birdandbee · 12/09/2013 19:11

Good luck happily - two betas might certainly help know what's happening. Fingers crossed for you - I would struggle to wait two weeks not knowing.

First midwife appointment for me today - hope they are as nice as Janet (minus the tea as that smell currently makes retch)

How you feeling maybe? Any improvement? Had a few good days but in the bad days phase again.

Prambo - three armed lifters sound great - dragons den?!

Beetle - am still smiling about your news!! I take it you aren't having twice symptoms?

Welcome bird - did I say that already!? My brain is def starting to mush.

Anyone any suggestions for maternity jeans - I've held out as long as I can but now doing them up makes sickness worse.

That seems a long time if you are worried beetle.... But at least you do know there is a reason for it from your last scan. Still worries us all though.

Have just been horribly sick.... So far nausea and retching but never actually the full act, I hate being sick. Now worried that this is a new trend and that we have a wedding tomorrow, no dress I can fit in and vomming. Good look! Scan on Monday though so am just counting down for that now.

NoMaybeAboutIt · 13/09/2013 10:19

Good luck today Wim! Ready for lots of form filling?! Sorry you're feeling rough. It's not nice at all Sad. I am worse than I was a week ago, but GP said it should hopefully peak at 14 weeks and then calm down. I will be calling on Monday to get my medical certificate extended. She said she would keep me off as long as I needed, thank god. I really couldn't work in this state Smile

Beetle brown spotting and twinges are very much oar for the course. I had so many twinges in the earlier days. And don't forget, you have got two in there, so everything will growing even faster Wink the same goes with the spotting. Mine has only really stopped this week!

Motor lovely, are you out there? Please pop in and say hi x

And lovely Nook is everything ok? We haven't heard from you in such a long time. Will Cake lure you out?

NoMaybeAboutIt · 13/09/2013 10:19

Thanks for the advice Beetle. I may have a look out. I'm on the lucozade which helps a bit Smile

Definitely take it easy. No point aggravating that fibroid. Are you missing MrB?

birdandbee · 15/09/2013 15:26

Hello!

How has everyone's weekend been?

  • I think the sickness may be starting... Nausea and wretching in the afternoons for the last few days...

I guess it's a good sign that things are progressing so in someways I'm thankful "the raspberry" as we are calling it is making itself known....

NoMaybeAboutIt · 15/09/2013 15:56

Hi Bird!

I had my scan in Friday, very active baby, measuring slightly ahead again. Feels a bit more real now we can tell everyone. Still feeling awful here Sad. Hope the nausea doesn't hit you too hard

birdandbee · 15/09/2013 21:51

Hello Smile

Was that your 12week scan? Can't wait to get to the point of relaxing...

My mother is really stressing me... Im only 6weeks and she keeps phoning me to as me about the "baby"... We've had numerous conversations about maintaining a perspective on the situation but she doesn't get that it's not a baby yet... That I could go for my 7wk scan and there could be nothing there. I don't want to talk about this... But find myself visiting this topic on a frequent basis with her.

She phoned my partner concerned that I'm bit handling things well... Arghhh! She's the only cause of my stress.... Wishing I'd not told yet!!!
