I'm eight week's pregnant and have had a scan which showed a heart beat.

All has been OK so far and I haven't had any bleeding, but last night I had three bouts of 3/4 contraction-type pains. really quite painful.

This morning everything is fine again, and still no bleeding.

Just wondering if this could be a sign of miscarriage or whether I would have started to bleed by now if it was that? I know no-one can really tell me, but thought that someone might have had the same thing and I'm feeling a little fragile.

Hiya, I have had three babies and each time I had pains in the first trimester even bleeding, I also felt baby move extraordinarily early. It is probably just your body having a lot of work to do. I have also had 2 miscarriages and they tend to continue and not die off. Put your feet up today and ring your doc if you are still worried just to put your mind at rest. Is it your 1st baby?

hi there, thanks for the message. it's reassuring. this is my second (I have a ds of 11 months who is currently sabotaging attempts to put my feet up), but I've not had a miscarriage previously.

Still no more pain or bleeding, so am hoping that that was it.

When it happened to me the midwife said it was to do with ligaments and everything stretching. Lots of rapid body changes etc. I know it's hard to put your feet up when you are a Mum though, near impossible. Take Care. xx

I had a mc before and was very nervous this time round. I have been told though that once they see the heartbeat on a scan the chance of mc is greatly reduced. Also, if something had been wrong with the foetus they would probably have had suspicions at your scan - for example, it may have measured too small for your dates.

Quacks · 18/06/2006 20:44

Hi yes if you have had a heart beat already chances rae v good, around 95% I believe. I have had 2 m/c's and had no pain at all. Even if you bleed 80% chance all ok. I have bled in all 5 of my pgcies, 2 m/c'd and even though I'm in touch with my body there was no difference in symptoms. I know this prob doesan;t help much but I'm trying to say chances are you are fine. I would certainy ask for another scan though fpr peace of mindxx

In my first pregnancy, the pains were so severe I had to take paracetamol and have a hot water bottle> There was no bleeding and it was just the uterus expanding for the pregnancy. Hope you are okay.

Just reading this has put my mind at rest - I'm about 6 1/2 weeks pregnant, had scan yesterday that showed heartbeat and have also had some twinges, almost like having a stitch. I had m/c at xmas so am a bit twitchy this time!! Anyone know anything about morning sickness too? Have had it for last week, on and off all day, but today it seems to have eased off a bit. Is that OK? is it supposed to be random?

cupcakes · 26/06/2006 20:42

I had some ms at around 8 weeks (just nausea) but then it really faded and I felt fine till last week (I am now 14 weeks) when I was sick and have been feeling nauseous in the mornings again.

laughorcry · 26/06/2006 20:44

sorry to ahve taken so long to get back, and thanks for thinking of me Aaronsmummy and shouldknowbyfriday. i haven't had any more pains and have now added heartburn to my list of symptoms, so I'm hoping that all is OK. i have booked another scan for tomorrow, though, as i have also had a tiny bit of spotting. so i should know more then.

MrsBilly, my symptoms have definitely fluctuated over the last few weeks and morning sickness most of all because it often comes on when it is triggered by something (usually a smell or when i'm in a car or on a train) and if i don't have the trigger i don't feel the nausea so much. as people have said (and i'm trying to believe!) it is a good sign to have seen a heartbeat on a scan. fingers crossed for you.

Let us know how you get on. Think positive.
xx

MrsBilly · 26/06/2006 20:51

I know my dh is feeling very positive about this one, having seen the heartbeat. He's banned me from doing any housework (denied!!) and when I came home tonight he's had his mates round and they've made tea. It was lovely but did start to feel a bit nauseous while eating it...

MrsBilly · 26/06/2006 20:52

Sorry laughorcry, also meant to say good luck tomorrow, will check in and see how you got on.

laughorcry · 27/06/2006 17:00

good news. the scan found the baby with a heartbeat and it had grown exactly the right amount since last time.

i am off to write out 'i must stop fretting' one hundred times

MrsB - hope all is well with you.

and thanks to cupcakes for your good wishes. it really helped.

Excellent news. I bet that's a weight off your shoulders. Hope you can relax and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy.

MrsBilly · 28/06/2006 17:15

Great news laughorcry, think i might join you in writing lines. That's one of my major problems and probably why I get little pains to start with - just worrying!

PurpleLostPrincess · 15/10/2006 19:31

Hope you are still well? I am 10 weeks and was up all night with cramps last night. No bleeding and no pains today. Really relieved now I have read this - thank you!!!

Sunshyne · 08/11/2006 17:17

Hello everyone,

It was a relief reading all your comments to each other to know I wasn't alone. I have had 3 miscarriages all between 5 and 6 weeks. I am now, I think 8 weeks (today) so that is good news !! I am having weekly scans to check everything is OK. The experts seem to think so, but still no heartbeat. On the 27th my baby measured 1.2mm, i was expecting it to grow 1mm per day so when I went to have my scan last sat. I was mortified to find it was only 2.4mm. I am so worried that it has stopped growing.
