Help: I Can't Stop Eating!

I'm almost 20wks now and am seemingly unable to stop consuming vast amounts of food. In the early days eating was the only thing to keep the nausea at bay, but now I suspect it's just habit. I eat a pretty healthy and varied diet, but then 'supplement' it with bars of chocolate, wedges of buttered bread, bags of crisps etc. I've also taken to putting mayonnaise on everything of late. I'm generally quite anxious about pregnancy and am wondering if I'm eating as a reaction to this, but even so I'm terrified at the size I might end up in 5 months time. Already my thighs are rubbing together uncomfortably, but I can't seem to stop stuffing my face. Anyone have any thoughts?

I ate and ate and are until about 25 weeks. I was genuinely hungry. It naturally eased off, and I'm all bump- no expanding backside and I'm 33 weeks now.

The rule I stick to to try and keep some order is to eat more fruit than cake.

If you are excising and generally hungry then i wouldn't worry to much. Were you over weight before being pregnant? GrinXxx

Oh my god I can't stop stuffing my face! I ate 3 packets of crisps this afternoon! Luckily for me though in the 1st 3 months I lost my appetite and only fancied salad and ryvitas and gained no weight in the 1st 5 months, I actually lost body fat so I'm quite lucky. I think the appetite thing is normal though, I guess you just need to try to control it so you don't make the job of losing the weight afterwards harder. x

Fraggle, I wasn't overweight before no, about 9st 5 and a size 10-12 (I'm 5'6"). But I have been several stone heavier in the past and I think it's the feeling of out of control eating that's stressing me, plus the fact that normally if you eat well for a few weeks you can see a result whereas ill just keep getting bigger! I do exercise too, walk up a lot of hills and swim 40 lengths twice a week as well as a pregnancy DVD once or twice a week.

totally normall i had problems eating anything due to bad food adversions & sickness like MummyJetsetter i actually lost ton of weight rather then gaining it i still dont have a huge want for food at 30+3 sum times i can only manage 1 meal a day i never eat breakfast either but then ive never been a breakfast person

FraggleRock77 · 27/08/2013 19:52

I wouldn't worry about it then. Like the other posters comment it is normal and you are doing great on the exercise front Grinxxx

Im also not able to stop myself from eating so much! I guess it's normal for some. There are a few lucky women who dnt seem to get a crazy big appetite when pregnant and only out ten kgs!

I'm 14 weeks and also crazy hungry all the time. DH can't believe it when I moan about being hungry just 1 hr after eating a big meal. In my last pregnancy I found I was hungriest in the 2nd trimester and that is when I gained the most. It calmed down by 3rd trimester so might do for you? If you are mindlessly munching try things like ryvita - you can munch loads and its not too many calories and lots of fibre too. Maybe try to stick to healthy snacks in daytime, nuts, fruit, veggies then treat yourself with evening dessert.
