Totally confused, when will I get a scan?

Am very confused!
Have this lovely piece of paper from the doctor's surgery, with the telephone number for the community midwives to arrange my 'booking appointment'. I should contact them in the 7th week apparently, so as to make the appointment in the 8-10th week.

Q1: When is my 7th week? 7th week from ovulation, or from last period? And as my cycle averaged 5 weeks (3weeks before ov, 2 ww after), should I factor this in at all?

Second thing. It doesn't say when I'll get a scan (which week of preg), only that I'll be referred for on in my booking appointment.

Q2: When are you typically scanned? Do you really wait until 20 weeks or is there one before that around the 12 week mark?

Thank you so much if you have any answers, I'm no good with the admin side of things!

Congratulations!
The 7th week will be from 1st day of last period. Don't worry too much about cycle length, the mw can figure it out when she sees you. She will book your first scan at your booking appointment. The 1st scan should be around 12 weeks.

Actually, some places the midwife doesn't book your scan, your doctor will have triggered a referral to the hospital's Ultrasound dept and they will write to you separately with an appointment around the 12 week mark.

If like me you have long cycles, then your 'dates' may be adjusted at your scan when they measure the baby and use that to calculate a more precise fetal age. So you might go from being 12+1 weeks to 11+4 weeks or something, and have your due date altered too.
