Hi I am 36+2 and I have to go back in hospital this evening for my 3rd set of liver function tests in a week. Yesterdays results were worse than expected.

I am not itching and my blood pressure is fine. Has anyone been through similar?

Yeeeesss. I ended up being induced on due date with DS in march. I did t really have much itching, but I had a bad chest infection and was on antibiotics a week or so prior to having raised LFTs so not sure if that was anything to do with it. At the time, they scanned my liver and gallbladder and found I had some (up to that point) untroublesome gallstones. DS was born in March and got admitted to hospital in May with acute pancreatitis due to gallstones. Had gallbladder out in June and much better although still getting slightly raised LFT results. No one has told me conclusively if all these things are linked, but I guess you could assume they might be! How raised are your results OP?

Hi Ethelred, sorry to hear about your gallbladder. Hope that's the end of the problems for you.

I'm currently waiting for the doctor to come out of surgery. The midwives are not really telling me much. So I guess I just have to be patient.

They think its obstetric cholestasis, as bile acid is at 12 (?) Have to have a liver scan and more tests next week.

But no itching which I am taking as a good sign.

Hi stepmooster, I was diagnosed with obstetric cholestasis at 34 weeks with bile acid of 69. The midwife said that their cutoff is 14, so it might vary from area to area. I've had to take medication to lower the bile acid levels every day, a dose of vitamin k every morning and antihistamines for the itching. Also been moved to consultant led care and will be induced at 39 weeks as there is a very slight risk of stillbirth after that point. I was really panicked and upset at being moved off midwife led care as its totally changed my birth plan, but it's really nothing to worry about x

Yes I was upset really as was wanting to labour in water at the very least (as I did with DD) but that all went out the window with induction. But DS was delivered safe and well so shouldn't complain to much.
My diagnosis was also of obstetric cholestasis but as with you both, very few actual symptoms. Hope you get some advice soon OP,

Thank you ladies, 12 doesn't seem too high compared to 69. I wish you well weareboats.

I am meant to be discussing induction on Tuesday with consultant anyway as she is in 2 minds over the fact I had a fast labour with a moderate pph with DD (no bloods required).

I'd had a second opinion and was going to say I didn't want one. I suspect this now muddy's the waters a bit.

I did go into natural labour at 38+1 with DD so maybe DC2 might beat them to it?
