I had an appointment earlier this week which was my 14 week one, nothing was really done other than my blood pressure and now I dont have another appointment till 25 weeks!!! Is it normal to have to wait this long as ive heard loads of people talking about hearing the heartbeat at 16 weeks? ??

Everywhere is different. However that does sound normal. Not every Mw will listen to the heart beat.

Do you not have a scan at 20weeks?

pippin66 · 22/08/2013 19:36

Ok thankyou. Yes I do have a scan booked but thats not till oct and Im going to go mad with worry in between I was hoping to at least hear it so I know its ok.x

Sounds normal. I think I went from 14 to 25 wk between community mw appointments, but there are also hospital antenatal apt and 2O wk scan, and the regime is different in different places.

You' ll probably feel kicking in the next month or so.

Is it your first baby? If not then sounds routine.

Like others have said all areas are different.

Thanks for the responses it just seemed odd and yes it is my first baby. I cant wait to feel it move think that will help me to relax a bit.

I know how it feels.

With my first I had my '12 week' scan at 9+4 and then nothing until I was 16 weeks. It feels like forever. However when they start moving you'll be so much happier and reassured everyday.

Sounds like your 14 week appt would be considered a 16 week appt in other areas.

In my area a first time mum without any problems would have appts at 8, 15-16, 25, 28, 31, 34, 36, 38, 40 and 41 weeks plus 2 scans (12 and 20 weeks).

In subsequent pregnancies appts are at 8, 15-16, 28, 34, 36, 38 and 41 weeks plus 2 scans (12 and 20 weeks).

That's what my notes say anyway.

I booked in at 8 Weeks, had scan at 12, scan at 20 alone and first saw midwife properly at 24 Weeks. Then it was every four Weeks until 32 Weeks...I think everywhere is different.
I wondered why I wouldn't be seen by midwife until 24 Weeks but I guessed it was because at that point you are considered a viable pregnancy etc.

Steffnexis9 · 23/08/2013 12:39

You can always ask for an extra midwife appointment hun x x and ask if they can check the heartbeat for you x x

LemonPeculiarJones · 23/08/2013 13:13

Yes, just phone up and book in an extra appt, and ask to hear the heartbeat. They'll oblige!
