Carrycots or can I manage with just carseats?

Hello all,

I am pregnant with twins and also have a 2 year old. I have been looking in to pushchairs (I had a gorgeous Bugaboo with my son but alas only for 1 baby and not 2!!)

I just wanted peoples opinion on if I need to bother to buy carrycots as they are in them for such a short time or if I could make do with carseats?

Any thoughts welcome Smile

I think it depends on how long your dcs will be in the pram. I want a carry cot as I walk everywhere and baby is likely to be in pram for a while at a time, but sil had always managed with car seat as baby was hardly in pram!!

If you like Bugaboo, have you looked at the Donkey? I have it and its a Bloody Dream

Carrycots. As a baby is not meant to be in a carseat for more than 2 hrs a day.

could you get a pram where the seats fully recline and are suitable for use from birth?

I think with twins it might be worth getting one carrycot at least as when you are out and about it will be difficult to get them out at the same time. This way you can swap them over a bit so neither is in the carseat for too long. Unless you have a large boot, two carrycots might be a tight squeeze if you need to drive places.

Yes, you need to remember that babies aren't meant to be in car seats for long. It's even less than 2 hours for newborns so I don't think it would be practical, especially with twins as generally, you'll need somewhere to put one down in order to tend to the other.

We barely used the carry cot with either of ours because both of them hated being laid flat. I just ended up using a sling most of the time for the early months and then moving them into the seat around 6mths. I wouldn't use the car seat too much only for short trips where its easier not to wake baby.

Having said that we didn't have multiples so suggesting a sling isn't much use to you. I'd probably get the carry cots personally just because of the advice about car seats and posture.

My twins are 11 months old and we didn't have carrycots, just car seats.

Thank you all for your input.

I am thinking of going for the baby jogger city select double (I have looked at the donkey but just wonder if it is a bit of a faff to put up)

For the carrycots I will be looking at another £80ish pounds each!

I will keep thinking about it.
