Normal weight gain?

I know everyone is different but what sort of weight gain is "normal"? I'm currently 23wks and have so far gained roughly 10lbs.
Don't they say 1lb per week after 12 weeks is the "norm"?

its normally based on your starting weight e.g. if you start off overweight aim to gain no more than one stone, if a healthy weight then weight gain of 2 stone is ok and if underweight then 3 stone would be fine.

Ok I see. I guess I was normal weight I think! Thanks.
Wonder how everyone else is getting on...

I seem to have only put on 5lb and I'm 26 weeks but I may have calculated it wrong! I'm a bit confused....

I'm 37 weeks and have gained 20lb. Have just been eating normally, everyone's different. But I do think gaining 5 st must be terribly depressing afterwards when you still have 4 st to lose.

I think I've just been lucky not to have had an increased appetite. If I had, I wouldn't have tried to fight it.

No, I've just worked it out again and it seems I've only put on 2lb. Think I might chat to the midwife about it next week at my appointment.

Your weight gain doesn't reflect the baby's. I am about 19lbs up at 39 weeks but gained about 16lbs of this by twenty weeks! Baby has grown consistently though and my appetite was just massive in the first half of pregnancy and now is, if anything, less than normal.

Just eat to appetite and fill up with healthy things and you should be fine.

I lost 35lbs in the first 18 weeks, the joys of HG, but have put back on about 14lb as over the past 5 weeks I've been bloody ravenous all the time, hopefully with 15 weeks to go this will slow down as otherwise I'm going to be a right blimp!
So long as your midwife is happy with you and youre trying to eat as healthily as you can then I think all is well.

I think everyone is different my MW has been keeping an eye on my weight. I was/am a size 8/10 and lost a lot due to HG within first trimester but I have put that back on now and. I am about 4 lbs above pre pregnancy weight now. I am 20+6. I have also been checking my weight against the pregnancy weight trackers online (NHS and baby center mainly).

Don't get too hung up on it. Everyone's body responds differently to pregnancy and those who eat normally throughout can't understand the overwhelming, faint-inducing need to eat that some do.

I put on 5st Blush with DC1. And do you know what? I was fine, my baby was fine and I lost it all afterwards. My mum ballooned when pregnant, as did her sisters and my cousins, so I think it's a family thing (well, that's what I'll keep telling myself Wink).

I didn't worry so much about the weight gain for DC2 and 3 - stayed away from the scales so I have no idea what I put on (fortunately I don't speak kilos, which is what they used at my antenatals), but it was a lot. Again, all was fine and it all went, although it took longer with DC3.

This time I have already put on a fair bit at 19 weeks and hope not to put on quite so much by the end, but that's because I've got lots of lovely clothes in dying to get back into (and stay in, as DC4 is definitely our last Smile). But at the end of the day, I can't not eat when I'm hungry and even though I'm 39 I know it will eventually go when I put my mind to it.

Disclaimer - the reference to age is because I've found it takes a bit longer to lose weight the older I've got Smile
