If you're cycle is shorter/longer than the standard 28 days how do they date your pregnancy?

Based on 28 day cycle and counting on 40 weeks from last Af (18th July) my due date is 24th April and that'd make me currently 4+5. But my cycles are 25 days. What happens there?!

They can give you a more accurate date at the 12 week scan based on measurements.

FobblyWoof · 20/08/2013 07:16

They'll still date it as if you have a 28 day cycle and then adjust the date at the dating scan. That's as far as I know. It's not a great system!

You can check online for what is more likely to be your actual date by using one of the online calculators that also ask about ovulation dates (there are a few out there)

Your 12 week scan is also a dating scan where the sonographer will measure baby, take into consideration your dates and give you an edd.

All babies can come two weeks either side of your edd though, do its only ever an estimate.

According NHS website ( which has an adjustment for cycle length) your EDD is 21st April.

You get your due date from your Lmp until the scan when they give you a more accurate date.

For me, they worked from a standard 28 day (ie, ignoring my actual cycle length) until my dating scan when a new EDD was calculated. The new EDD matched my own estimate based on my 25 day cycle.

TobyLerone · 20/08/2013 08:18

YY they'll adjust it at the dating scan. Any date you have until then doesn't really matter anyway.

Lovemyprincess4eva · 20/08/2013 09:54

Mine was changed at my dating scan because I have a longer cycle than normal x
