Can I ask the midwife to check my cervix at 36 week app?

Just that really. I've been having contractions since about 1 but don't want to drag myself up the hospital and potentially waste their time if its just braxton hicks. I have a midwife appointment at 3 so was wondering if she can check if anything is happening?

I'm 36+3.

Never been in the situation, but I can't see why not. A midwife is a midwife, shirley?
