Movements - worried

I am 18 weeks pregnant with my third dc. Last week I felt little movements that were very definite but since then I've not really felt much. Is this normal at this stage; to feel stuff some days and not others. I thought once I started to feel it I would feel it all the time but now I'm never sure what is wind/baby/nothing at all. I had a miscarriage at 8 weeks earlier in the year so I'm doubly paranoid.

I have a cervix scan this week as I have a short cervix so I'll find out how things are then but just wondered if other people had experienced anything like this.

Thanks in advance...

Hi OP didn't want to read and run.

Baby at 18weeks still has plenty of space to move around without being noticeable, try not to worry, most women don't feel proper movement until 24 weeks so your in a very normal situation, if this is your first pregnancy it will also take a bit longer to distinguish proper movement from baby to subsequent pregnancies.

If you are worried call your midwife, for reassurance. I'm sure all will be well.

Good luck and congrats xx

I think you're probably early enough for the movements to be pretty irregular. As Feeling said, they have loads of room to move and hide at that stage but speak to someone if you just need some peace of mind.

...forgot to say, I'd be more worried if the movements stopped and didn't return at all.

Thanks a lot. I think I just wanted a bit of reassurance. I've got a scan later in the week so fingers crossed all will be fine then.

Thanks again...

hi shirley I am 19 + 3 and still not feeling anything that I can be sure is the baby.
Each time I think I feel something, I convince myself its nothing and as anything I think I feel is so irregular I am trying not to worry myself.
I also have a scan later this week so this will confirm if all is ok.
A lot of people I know only felt the first at over 20 weeks and even then it was irregular until more towards 25 weeks.

Hi, I'm 25+2 and only now am starting to get fairly regular movements. I worried about the same thing as you when I was about 18/19 weeks, it's so lovely to feel the movement but then when you don't it's stressful. I asked MW about this last week and she said even now it's normal for them to be sporadic and they only ask you to look out for 10 movements per day from 28 weeks...

10 movemenets isn't very much but thats because so much of what baby is up to we can't feel anyway.

Hope this helps,

x

I am 20+4 and didn't star feeling anything till 19+4 and even then it came and went. I felt nothing at all at 18 weeks. It's only now that I am feeling her a little more. I also have an anterior high placenta. I wouldn't worry Op it's normal.
