Stretch Marks

I wondered how many of you ladies have managed to avoid stretch marks...

I had 2 with my first pregnancy and this time around at 39weeks I have not managed to get away with so few....even though I used creams and oils in exactly the same way!!

Did you get any? Worse with subsequent pregnancies?
Any cures!?!

I've bio oiled twice a day for 9 months... And I still look like I've been attacked by a tiger.

I bio oiled obsessively with my first, went to almost 42 weeks and had one tiny stretch mark. Was quite smug.

Pretty much as much bio oiling second time round, c-section at 39 weeks, generally much smaller bump and although I'm not riddled with stretch marks I've got significantly more than after first time.

mumofone25 · 18/08/2013 13:11

I didn't get any whilst pregnant and none showed up after my DD was born. I was constantly told that I would get loads after DD was born! I've heard it's mostly to do with genes?

LifeIsNow · 18/08/2013 13:43

Not sure about the genes theory as my sister and mother got away with none or just very few....maybe my genes are not good ones!?! ;-)

I think genes determine whether or not you are predisposed to get them.

The gene theory on stretch marks doesn't mean that you'll be the same as your mum and sister - as much as it doesn't mean you'll have the same eye colour, height, shape etc as them.

They have similar but not identical genes to your genes and it is your genes that will determine if you get stretch marks, no matter how much bio oil you slather on!

Everything I've read said creams don't help. Still used occasionally as it feels nice, is relaxing and it's a bit of nice bump time.
I've got loads but I don't think they look that bad, I suppose its dependant on each persons view of them also. I know people that would be horrified to have as many as me

themilkmonster · 18/08/2013 23:39

As I was coming to the end of my pregnancy I was really smug that I didn't have a single stretch mark despite having a HUGE bump. Then at about 37-38 weeks a couple appeared and then I started getting another one or two every day. I went to just under 42 weeks and was covered in them by then!

LouiseD29 · 19/08/2013 03:11

I've been very careful with creams and oil. Got some stretch marks at 39+4 (sorry!) Just woke up and there they were! They're really not too bad, and by this stage (40+9) I really don't care any more and they haven't got any worse. Good luck - hope you manage to avoid them.

Twinklestarstwinklestars · 19/08/2013 03:35

I only got them on my boobs with ds1 and 2 and though I hadn't got anymore with ds3 but since I had him 5 purple lines have appeared on my tummy.

PeriodMath · 19/08/2013 03:51

None in first pg - used E45 on bump.

None in second pg - used nothing.

It's partly hereditary, partly not gaining too much weight. I have gained about 25 lb each time.

jammiedonut · 19/08/2013 03:55

Moisturising daily, with any cream should help with the stretching and maybe avoid marks if you are not predisposed to have them. My stomach looks like bubble wrap its so marked but ho hum ds was huge, so can't say I was too surprised.

kissmyshineymetalass · 19/08/2013 03:58

I've had six babies and didn't get any,I did moisturise but I do that anyway.

AmandaCooper · 19/08/2013 04:37

I have one dc. I went to 40+6 with no stretch marks. Just luck I think.

Bio-oiled like a thing possessed first time round. Forget attacked by a tiger, I look like one!! My belly is entirely stripey. This time round I can't even remember where my bio oil is, no new stretch marks at all though. Probably because I'm still slightly corrugated from the first lot. On the plus side, I actually love my stretch marks.

urtwistingmymelonman · 19/08/2013 06:37

apparently its genes.
you don't have to share skin types with your mum or sister as those particular genes could have come from your third great uncle twice removed iyswim?
my sis got loads and I got none.

chickydoo · 19/08/2013 06:45

4 kids no stretch marks
DS 3 kids no stretch marks
DM 3 kids no stretch marks.

We all have stretchy skin. ( a by product of hyper mobility syndrome ) we also all have oily skin.( We are just odd)
